Chains:
• Strada: Run by the same team that brought us Belgos, this is a growing chain of comfortable, contemporary Italian restaurants. Vogue raves about their “yummy retro Italian food at restrained prices,” and it is all good, although their wood-burning ovens make the most fantastic pizzas imaginable (I prefer the Caprino). The house red is very, very quaffable, so you need study their wine list no further. Perfect for a rainy night in autumn or winter, or for sitting outside on a balmy summer evening. Be sure to make Strada part of your life in London, no matter how long or short your stay is. • Wagamama: The pioneer of Japanese noodle canteens, the original was designed by none other than the high priest of Minimalism, John Pawson, himself. A firm favorite with Londoners, the food is very reasonable, very quick and always delicious. Effortlessly stylish branches are all over London. • Pizza Express: It sounds like a Dominoes but couldn’t be further from it. This ubiquitous chain has, for forty years, offered a very simple and successful formula – great-tasting pizza in attractive surroundings. However, with one on almost every street corner, they’ve become victims of their own success (Pizza Excess?), and the pizza is actually not as good as Strada’s. |

Sometimes there's nothing better than finding a good dependable chain restaurant. London has lots of chains, but locals would avoid most of them! Here are some of the best.
PizzaExpress | Welcome Food is prepared in public at Pizza Express so the service is quick and clean. As the name suggests, this place offers traditional and quirky pizzas. It also sells salads and pastas. Strada Strada is yet another reliable Italian chain. Nice big pizzas and free water at every table. Seats can be slightly more cramped than at Pizza Express, but some would argue that the food is better. Leon Restaurants - Summertime for Leon Leon restaurants offer carefully sourced fresh fast food. A relatively new chain, but good value for money and a seasonal menu. |
