White water rafting, Tabacon hot springs, Visit Arenal volcano, Manuel Antonio Nat'l Forest, La Fortuna Waterfall, rent a car & avoid the large, deep potholes. Go anywhere on the Pacific coast.
Can you tell me more about your trip to Costa Rica? I have never been and am hoping for some opinons on where to stay/what to do. How did you plan your visit?
I saw your post and just wanted to tell you...I went to Arenal Volcano last year and stayed at Tabacon. It is a beautiful hotel, it can be a bit higher in price, but the stay includes admission to the hot springs, which you have to do if you go to the area, they are beautiful and awesome. Jaco Beach is a great place to go, but I reccomend staying in Hermosa if you go to that area. It is only a short drive (10 min.) to Jaco and you get out of the "city". I LOVE it there. I have only been on the Pacific side, but I liked all the central to southern area. Good luck and have fun!!
That is a good list of places to visit in CR. Two years ago, we visited one place that most tourists miss on the Pacific Coast which is the little town of Guatil near Santa Cruz. They make the most beautiful pottery that costs anywhere from $5 to $100. They will proudly show you how they make it too. Almost all the pottery shops are found around the town square which is a soccer field. While we were looking at the pottery, my son (who only speaks a few words of Spanish)went over to the field across the street and befriended some Tico boys and tried to play futbol with them. It was such a nice friendly place and definately worth visiting.
I have friends who live in CR. My family and about 10 friends from the US visited CR in Feb 2007. Great place to vacation. Beautiful country and friendly people. Arenal and Tabacon are at the top of the list. Along with a canopy tour, fishing trip, kayaking & snorkeling. We stayed near Hermosa and had a great time. Driving in CR can be a challenge due to road washouts etc. Hire a local or be very careful. Have a great time!!
