Vagabond Gourmet delivered on its' promise of gourmet food & and wine, unique and tasty restaurant experiences and great sightseeing. I joined this tour in Oppede, a small village in Provence. This is a small group tour, hosted by Laura and Steve Schmalhorst, which used an 8 bedroom rented estate as its home base. The accommodations were excellent and all meals were provided. We dined at the Chef's Table at La Mirande Hotel in Avignon and at Edouard Loubet, a premier gourmet restaurant located in this region. The hosts of our tour traded careers as celebrity caterers for pastoral settings and the best food the regions of France, Italy and other places have to offer. This tour also included visits to wineries and included sightseeing in places such as Aix en Provence. You could participate in cooking at the house on a voluntary basis, to help prepare the gourmet creations that Laura is famous for. I expect to travel again with Vagabond Gourmet in either Tuscany, Western France (Dordogne) or Napa. It's too hard to choose which one.
