Was fortunate enough to spend 10.5 months on a work assignment in Anchorage during 2005. Sourdoughs are fond of telling cheechakos (as I was during my limited time there) that when you're in 'Los Anchorage' you're only 20 minutes from Alaska, so on weekends would try to hit the road. Have organized photos from 2005 into approx. 80 albums at
http://sox-pats-fan.smugmug.com/
The albums may be useful if you’re interested in the types of scenes and wildlife you're likely to see at various locations reachable on weekend drives out of Anchorage to places like Valdez, McCarthy/Kennicott, Kenai Peninsula (many locations), Mat-Su area, Denali N.P./Healy/Cantwell area, Nenana/Fairbanks/North Pole area, Turnagain Arm, Iditarod Start, etc.

To try to stay connected to The Great Land in my mind and heart while physically 'imprisoned' in the Lower 48, have subsequently started to create musical slideshows of the photos with Alaskan themed songs in my spare time to share my appreciation of majestic Alaska with others. Have tried to make the slideshows both entertaining and informative, and a good way to experience a lot of photos in a short time. The link for the Alaska shows I’ve created so far is
http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewalbum.html?alb=120145
but you’ll need a high speed internet connection – will not work with dial-up. If after accessing link above, you get boxes with red x’s; or upon accessing the web page or clicking on the boxes you get a message to install an Active X control or a Photodex plugin or something similar, it’s perfectly safe to say OK and just something that’s sometimes needed for the shows to be played (I think it takes up only about 2.6 MB) and it downloads very quickly. Anyway, once you've done that you should be able to select and play the shows. Once you click on a show and it starts playing, just adjust your speaker volume, right click on the mouse and select Full Screen, and you're set to go – you can exit Full Screen, Pause, etc. at any time with another right click. Hope you enjoy.
