Best break: Pipeline

Biggest/most powerful: This is a tie Jaws, Maui and Waimea Bay

Best learning beach: Waikiki or Kailua beach

Longest ride: Waikiki

Best bodysurfing: Sandy Beach

I've only surfed once and that was in Waikiki. It was great for a beginner from the mainland. I had a blast, but realized how difficult it is and how easy the real surfers make it look.

I'd say the best beaches for (big wave) surfing are: Waimea Bay, Oahu, Hawaii;
Jeffers Bay, South Africa; and
Teauhupo, Tahiti, French Polynesia.

Although Sandy Beach, Oahu, Hawaii is a bodysurfer's paradise, I think it is topped in scenery and ride (less of a shorebreak) by its nearby neighbor, Makapu'u.

I live on Oahu and husband surf's it's breaks and has for many years

he says
best break: Yokahama's waves are great, break both summer and winter time and not nearly as crouded as pipeline
most powerful for big waves: Jaws and Mavericks - not Waimea because it closes out over 20 feet
