In Gettysburg, mention was made about that the "Civil War" would not have taken place if Jefferson had had his way. It was also mentioned about the Constitution being "against slavery" and the south not wishing to comply. The fact is that the war would still have happened since slavery was NOT the only issue, nor did the Constitution have anything whatsoever to do with the issue of slavery. The issue of slavery was a minor one. In fact, Abraham Lincoln was NOT for the freeing of slaves, he felt that was an issue that should have been left up to the individual state governments. It was Lincoln's plan to free the slaves upon the end of the war (under pressure from others)and return those who wished to leave America to their native country. Just thought you should know.
