I saw the installment on Rome last night and I certainly agree that the show is not average - it is well below average. I guess the producers think it is "hip" or "cool" to play fast music in the background while the camera shakes, moves from shot to shot so fast that you don't have time to get a good look at any of the sights they are purporting to show, bends the shots through a lens that distorts the image, and continually show close ups of faces, mostly the host, rather than the sights that we have tuned in to see. Another example of bad production: On a motor scooter, the host rode up a hill to what he termed the most beautiful view of Rome, but never showed us that view! This show makes the host the focal point rather than the place being visited. Put this one on MTV where it belongs.

I beg to differ. I thought the show was amazing! Really refreshing, not stuffy like so many travel shows are. I liked that it was edgy and spunky. I saw Rome and Philadelphia. I never would have thought I could sit through an entire episode on Philadelphia, yet I was thoroughly entertained as well as informed. Keep up the good work. I'd love to see more shows like this and less shows about poker and food. It's the Travel Channel after all. Wink

Have to agree with photomom. I think the show is great.

Shane-O is clearly the best guide.

right right... what else can one do with a 30 minute show but present some flavor of the people and places. Check out the pocket guides.

I enjoy Shane-O's ability to find interesting locals that are willing to share a sincere perspective of home. Razz

I have to disagree with the top post too! I for one love the pace and think travel channel could mix it up a little! even if i'm not interested in traveling to the place, i feel like i'm going through their experiences with them & it doesn't feel too hosty and boring--the rome guy, joseph he didn't feel too schticky, he seemed like a regular guy, like someone i'd be friends with that's on this cool adventure. shane-o was cool too, but my girlfriends and i would rather travel with joseph anyday!

definitely tuning in for more!

NYATG has impressed me so much. It is not your average travel show. It is the best show. Don't get me wrong, I love Samantha Brown and everything else Discovery has to offer, but this show (and this channel, for that matter) really is unique and colorful. I love the local quips on the locations, the "off the beaten path" experiences, and the hosts humorous take on the experiences as a whole.
I have to admit, though, I am a little biased. Shane O is one of our local guys and I have been watching his local TV show for years. Believe it or not, but NYATG has so much of what Shane O first created years ago. This makes FL proud... and inspires me.

I love the show! Shane-o keeps you very entertained, and hits lots of great spots. I haven't enjoyed the other guides as much, but I'll keep watching!

I stumbled on Not Your Average Travel Guide last night and cringed watching Shane-O twirl himself around the California coast. I found Shane-O's show a bit absurd; I would have liked to have actually seen some of the scenery and local hot spots along the California Coast! Instead of focusing in on the travel experience, the star of the show was unfortunately the host! I almost turned the channel on the whole thing until the Napa segment caught my attention. After watching a total goof jump around on the screen, it was a pleasant relief to see host Brian meandering down little roads in Napa and visiting elegant local restaurant hot spots! I felt completely whisked away to the wine country and couldn't get enough of the lovely scenery and interactions with the locals! Brian seemed genuinely interested in Napa and this sincerity was carried through to the viewer -- he did an excellent job turning the experience into something tangible and keeping me interested. I left the show feeling wined and dined and now I am eager to plan a trip to Napa!

I'm definitely tuning in again to see where Brian goes next!

What a great show! My husband and I really enjoyed learning about the many tastes and happenings of Napa and Brian did a wonderful job giving us a tour. I can't wait to see what the show will feature next week; we are hooked! Please bring more of this type of quality entertainment to the station!

Hey hey! I'm a proud Destination Soundcheck fan myself. It's great to see all that hard work pay off.

I know we all have our favorite host, but I think we can all agree that this show is a breath of fresh air in a pretty stale genre.

I watched the Napa show last night and enjoyed it. The scenery was beautiful, the host relaxed, and it had a fast, refreshing pace. I like this show.

I saw the show on Barcalona and I could not agree with reiplef more. The producer or whoever does the final editing needs to calm down. Just take it easy and relax. I came very close to just changing the channel. My interest in Barcalona and Spain made me hang in there. I was, however, very annoyed (and getting a little dizzy) with the pace of the show and that stupid convex lens effect. Cool it with the rock and roll attitude. We just want to travel.

I will say that the show's use of the American tourist was very interesting. It was nice to hear from those of us who are there.

The show has a lot of potential. The Barcalona show made me appreciate the down-to-earth nature of Samantha Brown's show.

The Barcelona show is the one that got me hooked. The show may appeal to a different audience but to critize a different perspective I think is a little ignorant. I love this show and now do everything I can to catch each episode. Just finished watching the Washington, DC and Las Vegas episodes and once again very good. A quick snapshot of what you can do to break out of the typical site seeing trip.

I would love for them to do a show on the Aosta Valley area in Italy. I'm hoping to go in October 2007 and it would be great to see their guides perspectives on this region.

Woot! Destination Soundcheck fan here as well. I can't even tell you how many nights I spent sitting up watching that show and laughing my behind off.

Shane-O is quite a character; I used to talk to him when he lived in the 850, and still get to chat with him now and then. The show they put together is all the information you want but without the boring old people.

Visually repulsive and amateurish. Unwatchable.

SmileWe are all proud of our local Shane-O with the brain-o! NYATG is a great show, and I must agree with Char84 there is a lot of Shane's local show in this. I have enjoyed his work for years and hope to continue for many more.

I just happened upon this show for the first time and loved it! Does anyone know if there is a way for me to download and watch past shows? I'm heading to Vancouver soon and would love to hear what they have to say before I go.

Question regarding the Dublin episode.
I've been trying to find out what B&B was suggested by the host. Can someone point me in
the right direction?
