If you ever get a chance to stop by Tokyo, there's a few places and sights I can recommend.

1: Emperors Palace, Tokyo:

At the heart of the modern city of Tokyo is the Emperors Palace, which is comparable to the United States White House. This flowing green landscape features many historic buildings, large gardens, and other sights. The entire complex is surrounded by a large moat and is fantastic for taking a few artistic photos. The area is so large that you almost get the feeling that you've traveled back in time, with the only indications otherwise being the large skyscrapers pushing up to the sky in the horizon.

2: Kamakura, Japan:
This small town about an hour from Tokyo has many, many historic temples, old style restaurants and in the summer has lots of little trinkets and souvenir's to take home and put on your bookshelf. By far the largest attraction in this city would be the large metal statue of the Great Buddha. Even without the famous statue this city is a worthwhile visit just to see all of the historic temples scattered about. If you really want to see everything here, allow a couple of days to explore

Japan is truly a country with lots to offer at any time of the year, as long as you do your homework and !!!PLAN AHEAD!!!.

Almost any travel book will have general information on the sights, but for the real experience of Japan you are going to need to ask the friendly locals. Most of the time people are happy to tell you the best places to eat, shop, visit and sleep are.

I would add a few more places...

Roppongi Hills - this is the nightlife area of Tokyo.

Ginza - this is the Rodeo Drive of Japan and the most expensive retail real estate in the world.

Harajuku - Avant-garde fashion center

Shibuya - shopping and entertainment district - boutique central.

Sensoji Temple and Meiji Shrine - big beautiful temples

If you are going to travel outside the city...

*Climb Mt Fuji - more of a walk up the side than a climb really, and if you do the overnight trip up the side you can catch the sunrise... amazing.

*Hit up Inuyama (outside Nagoya) for Cormorant fishing and one of only two original medieval Japanese castles (the rest were rebuilt after WWII)

*Takayama - historic town that has not changed much since feudal samurai times.

*Kyoto... Temples Galore

*Yoshino - best cherry blossom spot

*Kobe - beef. yum.

*Sapporo - Snow Festival... Soba and Beer!

Also, find a good Onsen (Japanese Spa) for a day visit and a good Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) for a night. It can be a bit pricey, but you will not regret it. Period.

Japan has more than just a few places to see, in fact, it has hundreds! Whether you're going there for a week or for a year, you'll never be bored. There are so many sights and experiences. Tradition is very important there so the culture is a mix of that and modern. The food is great too, although it's a bit tough for a person with a seafood allergy!
