I have a recommendation for Brandon's trip to Paris. He should travel to the Eiffel Tower and then jump off it. This world doesn't need another "closed minded" homophobic jerk traveling to europe and being a typical jerk american. Grow up Brad! I've been to Europe many times and you would be surprised their acceptance of gays and those of different cultures.

We don't need another homophobic and ignorant american being a fool in Europe. Please do us all a favor and jump. Brad, please try to remember - you're a guest in their country.

Derek,
I wish you the best of luck dealing with Brad. He already doesn't seem like a cool character. I hope you have a great time in Paris and Amsterdam. I've been many times and it's great.

You all need to get a little Turkish delight called the Doner Kebab. It will be way better than any French meal you will eat, I know from experience. You will also like to know that usually the cheaper the kebab, the better it will probably be (at least that was the case with all the kebabs that I ate while I was in France). Also get a pet dog and a paper cup and the French people will load you down with free food and cash, just to help support your dog, then when you are done with the dog give to a homeless guy who needs the companionship. Last of all try and have a conversation with the older people, they will tell you all about life and how to enjoy it.

I've been to Paris a couple times an the best thing to do for a meal is buy some cheap wine, bread and cheese, then head to a park and have a picnic. Then go to the Sacre Coeur, the roof of the Samartine department store and the Centre Georges-Pompidou. All these sights are on the right bank and in contrast to the Effiel Tower, the view is free. The best thing to do for cheaper prices is to show your college I.D., even @ hostels it could get you a % off. I hope this has been helpful. Good Luck in your travels

Go to top of Notre Dame, as I remember the tour was good but being up close with the Gargoyles and the view is breath taking!! Not to be missed. My husband had been there before but had not gone to the tower and was very moved and impressed when I made him go up. His first trip to Paris had been ruined by anti American sentiment whereas mine had been great. He was with another guy and I was with 2 girlfriends. Did this make the difference? This was in the late 70's and our return was in 1986. I did find they were friendlier when they noticed us trying to speak FrenchSmile I hope you can still go to top of Notre Dame. Also, another not to be missed experience is the Left Bank for art galleries, quaint boutiques, food and the coffeehouses are a must, as is the Cafe De Flore and Deux Magots on St-Germaine- des-Pres. Our hotel was close by, (even as backpackers we found an inexpensive hotel) Be sure to go in early evening to enjoy street entertainment and just people watching. You don't even have to stop in the cafe to enjoy the areaSmile

Going to the top of Notre Dame is very expensive...it was about 20 euros when we went, which is about $40. I do plan on doing that next time I go back. =)

Hey Sean! Just wanted to let you know that Derek and I are getting along good, and in constant discussion about how in the shooting/editing they are trying to pin us against each other (as I'm sure most of you obviously saw on the show).

I'm not homophobic, and do not hate him or anyone else for who they are (and never said that in the show)... but do have my beliefs and thoughts on life. Being "close-minded" means that you disrespect someone else solely for their beliefs being different from your own (and won't take into consideratin what they have to say), and since so far I have not disrespected Derrick for the choices he makes, or you for your harsh words... I do believe that in this situation, telling me to "jump off the Eiffel Tower" to kill myself because of what I believe in, would make you the close minded person.

Please in the future 1) realize that this is a TV show with words and phrazes re-edited to create more conflict (i.e.- they pulled my sentance out imediately after what I said saying, "...those are my beliefs, but that doesn't give me any right to judge anyone else, as there are things about me that others disagree with as well...), and 2) take a breather before writing in and angry next time, you wrote 3 messages in a matter of 6 minutes, so I am sorry that I made you that upset.

But, none-the-less... thanks for writing in with your thoughts.

-Brad

Beautiful, thanks for that suggestion. We actually ended up seeing that yesterday and I absolutely loved it. Reminded me kinda of Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence (not by looks, but by the city view and what you described to do there). Just wish we had more time to sit, ponder and chat like you mentioned! Maybe next time Smile Places like that are seriously some of my favorite spots to hit in new cities- I'd like to hear anything similar in the upcoming locations!

We also hit up the Eiffel Tower today and got an awesome tour of Notre Dame on Saturday. The Eiffel Tower seemed to get more amazing the longer we were out in front of it, and Notre Dame is just massive and beautiful. All places I'd go back to in a second...

If you are still in Paris, there is a restaurant called Le Corset at 18 rue Greneta. I went there about 10 years ago and trust it is still the same if it is still there. All the servers are transvestites and the restaurant itself is tiny, tiny. With the tight spaces and platform shoes, the staff appears to be ten feet tall. Extremely bustling place that was a lot of fun. Hope you get to go!

I think seaninsanfransisco needs to take a bit of his own advice and grow up himself! He wants people to be non-judgemental and accept "gays and those of different cultures"...how about next time he should step back and realize he is the one judging a guy who he doesn't even know, and shut his mouth!

Obviously you can see who is the bigger person in this situation when you read Brad's comment to yours...

Thank you for your comments though, as it really shows who is the jerk in this situation!

Okay, two things that I love to do when I go to Paris, other than make poetry in the Montparnasse train station at 4:30 am in the freezing cold, are:

~eat dinner at La Maison Rose, it's on the hill in Montmartre, but it's not in the incredibly thronged squares up there. The food is great, and it's semi-inexpensive, for really, really good 3 course meal, it was 14E50 when I went, and that included a glass of wine. Okay, so how do you get there....take the stairs up to the top where Sacre Coeur is. Take a left, and walk through the square, when you're past the square by about 10 yards or so, there's a street on the right, take that street down to a pink house on your left.

~Nightlife...if you like swing dancing, there is only one place to go...the oldest swing club in Paris, and yes, it's underground. It's at 130 Rue de Rivoli (same one the Louvre is on), and it's called the Slow Club...admission for students is 9E, but there's usually a live band, and there are some amazing dancers there.

Le Palais Garnier, Opera National de Paris if you have a fondness for Phantom of the Opera, its a great tour. Museum D’Orsay for viewing all the impressionist. It is more do-able than the Louve. Café Flere-en-I’lleu 42 quai d’Orleans on the Ile St-Louis for the best hot chocolate in the world and the best Kir Royal too. Bateaux Mouche for our first Boat tour of the Seine. Illumination boat tour, after10pm. 1 ½ hour tour for 40ff, not sure of the Euro price. The Samaratain for a great view for free at the top of a department store at the Pont-Neuf bridge.
