I don't know if any of you have heard this, but Cox Communications has put Travel Channel up for auction. According to today's newspaper, interested parties include NBC Universal, News Corporation, and Scripps. If we can scrape together $700 million, WE could buy it.

I’d like to see PBS or National Geographic pick it up, then maybe Samantha could make a show we’d all be happy with all the time. As always, thanks for the insider info.

David S., you may get your wish about National Geographic picking up the Travel Channel. According to the L.A. Times on 10-22-09, Robert Murdoch's News Corp. is getting close to a deal of acquiring the Travel Channel through its partnership with National Geographic for $900 million. Thus would end the mercifully brief ownership of Cox Communications, who did Sam & her fans no favors by trying to turn her Great Weekends into an Anthony Bourdain wannabe. Sam has a distinct audience of her own, and she's a much better "genuine Sam" than an "Anthony Bourdain knock-off." Sam, we love ya!
