I have a feeling there are going to be a LOT of comments from Austinites on this one!!
On tonight's show from Austin, Samantha referred to the bats (which are under the CONGRESS AVENUE BRIDGE, which she never referred to by name) as vampires! As a Texan & long time member of Bat Conservation International I am appalled at her ignorance. There are over 1,000 species of bat, only 3 of which are vampires. BCI has spent decades dissplelling the negative myths & legends surrounding these highly beneficial creatures (these particular ones are Mexican Free-tailed bats, who BTW, consume tons of insects evey night, which is why we love them so much!!)The citizens of Austin take tremendous pride in their bats and the strides that have been made in educating the public on their importance to the ecological balance of our planet. To think that it would be cute to have them appear to fly out of your butt resulted in a complete lack of respect for your journalistic integrity. Samantha seems to have shifted her focus from highlighting the attractions of the destination to just how cute & attractive she can be. she has, as of tonight, lost a viewer!
