I received a very nice email from a lady friend in the UK asking if I would be in London for New Years (sadly, no). But she brought to mind that it is that time of year we should begin to make plans. She invited me to my old haunt at the St. James (I think it is actually called the Crown Plaza St. James), and it was £139/person for the New Years Eve party including champagne, dinner, dancing 'til 2, a room and breakfast. For a 4 star, that's a very fair price. If I was in the UK, I'd be there beyond any doubt. But, I'm stuck here until after the New Year.

What abut you? If you had your druthers, in which Great Hotel of the world would you spend New Years Eve? Either at home or on the road, help yourself. No rules, just right, as they say.

I'm currently away at college so I'll be home for Christmas and New Years. College also means I won't be staying at any four star hotels for a while! But it will be nice to be home.

I was wondering how you got that pound sign? You have some fancy international keyboard dontcha? I'm sure I'm the only person who thought it worth mentioning but still it struck me as...interesting. Call me easily exitable!

If there were no limitations, I would be at the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park on Dec. the 31st. From their bar Rise, I would be gazing out at the Statue of Liberty, champigne in hand, waiting for the fireworks to begin. Aaahh!

Then again, maybe I'd still rather be at home with my mom and cat. But it would be nice to have the option!

Well you asked Where are we going to spend New Years this years. My lady and I throught about many different places, I said let's head back to Hawaii and spend New Years at the Turtle Bay Resort, This is a real nice hotel/resort. Also a resort that Sam stayed at a few times.
We've spent a few Christmas's in Hawaii and a great time so why not spent New Years there. Seeing I'm in Michigan and it'll be cold so I'm looking forward to spend some time in the nice warm weather in Hawaii.

What a super place to contemplate spending New Year's Day!! I have just returned from a short stay there (my 2nd), and it's even better than when it was a Hilton. The recent renovations are fab! I would recommend a special treat for you & your lady......my girlfriend & I treated ourselves to a new spa treatment they're offering........an oceanside foot & leg massage. Heaven! Nothing like sipping Kona coffee, watching the North Shore surfers (and surf will be WAAAAYY up in December/January), inhaling the aromatic fragances of tropical ungents, and dipping one's holiday-stressed feet into a bath of warm coconut milk. The spa staff is wonderful, the views are incredible, the sensations divine. And then there's the rest of the resort to enjoy. Try to spend as much time here as you can!!!

San Diego's Hotel del Coranado is probably one of the finest hotels in America. You'll find it at http://www.hoteldel.com/

You may also wish to consider the Estancia LaJolla, which can be found at www.estancialajolla.com

We're agreed The Del is a great place to be - just about any time of year. I lived in San Diego (actually Solana Beach just north of Del Mar) for nearly a year (some years ago) and visited The Del occasionally, but I don't recall ever seeing a GH show centered there. TC did a segment on the ghosts of The Del, however, nestled in a show on hotel ghosts.

But this year I'll be solo at a private party given by a good friend in the publishing industry who has a condo that overlooks our downtown area - we have fireworks at midnight here. No St. James Hotel this year in other words (sorry, Anne, maybe UK next year). Like ihop, I considered the possibility of staying home with my daughter's cat but decided to be social after all. [I hope ihop does too.]

And for that matter, surely you must have decided by now. Come on, don't be shy. Where in the world are you spending New Years? Or where would you like to spend it? [Keep it clean, s'il vous plait.] May I recommend chartering a private jet to celebrate the New Year 24 times? Wishes and dreams are free of charge, by the way ...
