Hello!

I actually have 15 minutes free in my schedule so I wanted to touch base and see how everyone was doing.

We have been shooting Great Weekends and things have been crazy, wonderful, exhausting, thrilling etc. Just got back from Las Vegas where I got to dance with the Pussy Cat dolls-albeit with a lot more clothing on. Also got to go to the Richard Petty racing experience but only got to ride in the passenger seat because Travel Channel didn't want me to drive. It had something to do with insurance and i'm not sure if that meant I wasn't worth it, or worth too much. I thought it was hysterical that in all the things I have done and the possible life risking involved, It was deemed too dangerous to drive. Maybe its because i am a New Yorker.

we also recently finished shooting my hometown for the weekend show in Portsmouth NH. Mother and Father Orange will be thrilled to know that we went to Flo's and Gail actually let me behind the counter to make some hotdogs!!!! I told Gail this ranked up there with being on the Wall of China!

I know you haven't seen a lot of me on the Travel Channel, on the boards but all that is about to change as we ramp up for the launch of the new series (beginning of June) as well as the China specials.

Hope all is well!

Hi Sam!
Thank you for the update!! Can't wait to see your new shows in June!! I read you were going to do a show in Austin Texas! Did you shoot that show yet? I live in Austin, and it's a fun place to live!
Last year you answered my Berlin Question, and I really enjoyed your answer. I was in Berlin in November 07' and what an exciting city! Loved it.
I booked a trip to Milan November 08. Have you ever been to Milan? Great music there too!
Again, it was so nice to hear from you here on this forum. I guess you needed to re-register again like the rest of us!
You are an awesome person, and we all love you.
Don't forget that.
I hope you have a great time on your Birthday.
Any special plans?

Hey Sam! Thanks for posting... you know everyone here is so happy to hear from you. I'm glad you're having such a great time shooting the new series... I'm interested to see you dance with the Pussycat Dolls... haha. When are you going to be on Dancing With The Stars? I think you'd be great! Pity you didn't get to drive... yes, I find it odd because you've been parasailing and everything, but not allowed to drive? Oh well!

Sooooo excited for the new series! Did you do any episodes around Chicago? Are you going to? There are some great places around here to visit. St. Charles is pretty cool except there are giant spiders everywhere. Hmm maybe I shouldn't have said that... Wink

Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to your fans. You're a star and we all love you!

Relax and have fun on your birthday! Do something fun WITHOUT a camera pointed in your face (for once!).

Samantha!
The Oranges are indeed thrilled with your bun steaming experience, and if davidwhoedits cuts that out of the Portsmouth show I'll steam his buns. :-)
This is something you were born to do, Sam, and I hope you were there on a Wednesday and got a free hotdog.

I am also happy to have evidence that the Travel Channel has perhaps finally realized that you ARE worth too much.
Thanks for stopping by. Five posts and you'll be a full fledged member again, mod ben says.
Please make some good promos for the new shows that don't involve disgusting foods. We have all seen way too many of those lately.
And do have a great 37th birthday, too.

As always,
Mother O.

Hi Samantha, it’s really great to hear from you and to know that there are new shows on the horizon. I just hope that you’re not pushing yourself too hard. In the picture that accompanied the Seacoast Online article, you’re gorgeous, but seem to be bewildered or disoriented; very uncharacteristic of you. Your post have reassured me, that all is indeed well with you. Take care of yourself, we need you!

Hello again, Samantha.

In your 36th (I think it is now?) year of being Sam, perhaps you should try getting out a little more and seeing something of the world for a change. And you know you could not run for President until you were at least 35 by law (see elsewhere in your forum where there's some sentiment for your running) although I suspect you've somehow found your calling as it is. Enjoy your birthday, and your weekend, and your being home again, Sam. The other joy of travelling is the welcome back on your return, but a feeling only you can truly know. I'm glad you're doing well. I know you're happy.

(And I sort of miss my Sept. 2002 registration date here, but then these are merely years and times, and thus are really only matters that we make of them, and you've made so much of yours. Just think of all you've done in, 34? short years.) Happy Birthday Monday, Sam. We've not forgotten you.

Oh Capt. , you sly dog you. You do have quite a line, don't you? I bet you could sell a refrigerator to an Eskimo. Flattery will get you nowhere, or maybe it will, who knows? I wish I had your gift of gab. You should be in politics. Take care, and keep up the good posts. We love 'em.

No, no one's ever mistaken me for a smooth talker. And I've always been absolutely terrible at selling things, with as far from possessing a Type A personality as is imaginable.

But I meant to mention earlier a real curiosity I have about Samantha's Portsmouth. I've never been in New England beyond Boston, but have been intrigued by the Wentworth since seeing old Arts and Crafts style drawings of Wentworth-by-Sea when still a teenager, all that stick and shingle style of "seaside" architecture that's so evocative of that time. I love old historical buildings and seeing them restored. And of course who doesn't want to see where Teddy Roosevelt earned the Nobel Peace Prize by brokering the peace treaty to the Russo-Japanese War of 1904 or '05 I think on a battleship right out there in the harbor? But mostly I know Samantha will be absolutely glowing as she shows us one of her most favorite areas anywhere. I really do look forward to this upcoming treat. I hope there's no misunderstanding that.

Your Ladyship,

(Bowing courteously)

Great Weekends sounds very enthusing and it’s going to be fun seeing Samantha film shows in the United States again. I did see the aforementioned Great Vacation Homes show from Blue Ridge, Georgia and enjoyed it through and through. (It is a masterstroke of psychological strategy for Samantha to remain in contact with good-natured people who are good at barbeques.) GVH is a treasured series and I’m very fortunate to have taped most of them. Because I did, it would be delightful for me to bring up another GVH show from Georgia in Lake Rabun, owned by Elizabeth and Chuck Wallace, as a way to pay tribute to the host for her birthday.

For instance, I loved the opening faraway shot of Samantha sitting on a lake dock, holding a mug of java while enjoying the early morning stillness, commenting on "the steam coming up off the water and sun rising up over the mountains." As the camera slowly panned towards her, it was obvious she was equally appealing to see as any serene sunrise. Smile

In contrast to this peaceful beginning, the show ended uproariously with Samantha on Chuck’s boat called "Dancing Bear," where they were cocktail cruising on the lake. Chuck said he was "saving the best for last for first time visitors" and brought out some kind of homemade gassed up cider he labeled "Wallace Water" on a glass jar. By the devilish look on his face you knew he was about to throw some fat on the fire. Our heroine, who should be admired for her courage and sense of obligation towards the show, was unfazed to take a deep swig. But the intoxicating elixir didn’t make it far pass the gulp before it got spewed back all over the camera lens. The close up look on Samantha’s paralyzed face to close out the show was a skull busting experience! Big Grin

And lets give due recognition to "Sam’s Cabin," the charming vacation home Samantha had personally built in Linville, North Carolina. To open that show, Samantha stepped out the front door of her sprawling retreat and proudly asserted her home was retrofitted on "4 ½ square feet of land from buying raw materials with gift certificates I got for my birthday." Huh, huh. Yeah, right. But she quickly fest up it was just a tree house for the owner’s grand kids. Be that as it may, we all know her real birthday is at hand today.

Therefore, in quaint similarity, a homage type gift certificate is summoned forthwith to mark this precious occasion. With humble admiration, I present this post as a ribbon-attached gift certificate to certify her majesty’s birthday as a genuine national holiday for all ages to come. With polite genuflect obeisance, I extend forth this sacred scroll placed on royal pillow and wish her a very boisterous birthday ... and with deep religious faith ... pray that the happy couple’s real residence is a true vacation home from their working lifestyle. Smile

Later on in that show we got to meet the owner’s pet cat named "Bonkers," which is such a terribly cute name. I wish to express sincerely that this cat was far more appealing than those Santa Fe, New Mexico owner’s pet rats that were placed on Samantha’s lap for her to stroke and caress in a different episode! By far, it would be highly more preferable for me take a big swig of "Wallace Water" then have pet rats placed on my lap! What a unique way to start off a career on TV (as I scratch my head in bewilderment). Razz

Because the North Carolina owners had a mushroom business in Miami, they herald mushrooms as an ornamental theme throughout their home. As a result, Samantha couldn’t help but end the show by wondering, "If I change my name to 'Samantha Portobello' would my career then begin to mushroom?" Yes, she confessed bad jokes are all you’ll get out of her. Yet, with her name change undoubtedly proving unnecessary, we can all agree today that the starlet’s wonderful career has truly mushroomed into a beautiful, quasar-like, blue beam of powerful light. I’m certain it will continue to increase unendingly through her spreading of wondrous joy as divine gift to the multitudes. Smile

For further escalating this endearing event to the more present day, I wish to complimentary express how enchanted Samantha looked while wearing the stylish black dress towards the end of her Guadalajara, Mexico episode. It pleases me to say she looked spellbinding in her formal gown. It brings to mind in her Rio de Janeiro journal when she declared her favorite part of the day is passing a little café where a woman with a guitar is singing bossa nova music. Seeing Samantha in this black dress seems ideally suited to imagine her dancing the bossa nova herself. Big Grin

Once more, in Passport To Europe, it is well worth mentioning how pretty Samantha also looked while wearing her casual blue outfit when working inside the kitchen of the "Gatto Nero" restaurant in Venice, Italy. Samantha truly stood out as someone looking like, "a very beautiful woman has just entered the room," when making pasta with the Italian family. She seemed in a rush to eat so I hope she enjoyed the meal she carried out with her.

Sorry Sam couldn’t get to drive at the Richard Petty racing experience but she’s welcome to test drive my new 2000 Honda Civic LX instead. I just brought it on Friday and I'm very pleased because it drives much better then my 1994 Volkswagen Passat GLX, which I traded it in for. As a result, I am doing quite well and looking forward to spring and summer driving around in my new wheels. Cool

I bid you a beautiful birthday and best wishes for all the new shows, which I'm looking forward to with great enthusiasm.

Hi Sam!! Have you ever been out to Albuquerque, NM? I've lived here since 1980 and I LOVE IT. It would be great to have you visit. Also, I have dreamt my entire life of taking a trip through Germany, (since that is my heritage), Austria, Switzerland, Italy etc. Have you ever taken a cruise on the Rhine? Do you have any money saving suggestions for such a trip? Thank you, and I can't WAIT for the new season because I LOVE hangin' out with you - we do it every Sunday, just thought I would let you know!! Blessings, Chris

Hi Sam:

I love your show Passport to Europe and have been watching it every morning here at 9:00 a.m. and at 9:30. Just finished watching your visit to Bologna, Italy from 2006.

QUESTION: I adore the lime green coat you wore on this program. Where did you get it? What label is it? I enjoy watching your colorful wardrobe on all your shows--to match of course with your colorful personality, and the new program sounds so great! Will look for it!!

For that matter, so do I...LOL

We have had so much fun watching you and have learned so much from you. Looking forward to the new series, especially the weekend cruise episode on the Carnival Inspiration. It was our honeymoon ship.

I am thrilled to see Passport to Great Weekends is coming, and I just saw your Carnival Inspiration show last night. You never fail to make me laugh. And your singing wasn't anything to be embarrassed about - you were lovely!

So happy for you that all your shows are a huge success, as they should be.

Thank you for your inspiration and best wishes for continued success!! You're the greatest! Smile

Hi Sam:

Great weekend show! Congrats!

As much as you travel and mingle with haughty or hoi poloi you never let yourself down. You're far too graceful to lower youself to the tawdry or vulgar. That comment in Austin about arranging the camera to make bats appear to fly out of your ...., well, it's just not you. Too much Bourdain maybe? I dunno...

Best wishes. You're absolutely captivating. Really fun shows.

Dennis I agree.
Cheapness or vulgar behavior is very much out of character. Maybe the commercial of the new show was a sneak preview of the new Bourdainesque show. Wink Maybe it's just a test?

Love the new show!! I noticed that one of the Weekend shows is in Myrtle Beach, SC! This is exciting to me because I live in SC, and SC doesn't get much notice, so, it's awesome that she did a show here!! I've been to MB several times, but I didn't like it that much...too many buildings. It is a big tourist spot though. Charleston is MUCH better in my opinion! Just went there Wednesday for a day trip to the Isle of Palms! Big Grin Can't wait for more shows...the farthest I've been away from home is San Francisco, CA, once, so I definitely live vicariously through Samantha's AWESOME shows and hope one day I'll be able to go to AT LEAST one of those places!

Amy

P.S. Samantha, when you get the chance, could I have an autographed picture as well, please?!? Thanks!

Hi, yall, and I know I missed Sam, so I won't say "hi Sam"!
I used to be "samadmirer" but I couldn't log in with the old moniker. I'm lovin' the new show and the "new-improved, earthier (for lack of a better term)" Sam! I can't help to feel, however, that the feel of the show is a little too much like "No Reservations," even if our Travel Goddess took a couple of potshots at ol' Tony.

I still love Sam and always will be a fan.

Hi Sam,
Just love your show. Watched your new week-end show in Myrtle Beach. Are you ever going to come to PA to do a show? I live in Reading PA and we have the great Pagoda that sits atop the mountain and there is a lot of history here. I understand that while you were growing up you visited a relative here? Is that correct?
Keep the great travel shows coming. You make each and every show interesting, fasinating and so much fun to watch.

Hello Samantha,
I will say that I really love watching your show its so easy to follow along with a ten-month old son running around too. I have an idea for you new series "Great Weekends". The Wisconsin Dells, not only is it the biggest tourist attraction in Wisconsin its also a city, not many people know that. The Dells has lots of old world charm form the early 1800's up until now. There are only 4 places in the world where you can find a certain kind of stone and the Dells is one of them. This great attraction has been on the Travel Channels programming before in one of the shows where its like top ten best amusement parks. But I will say this being a local there and a lifeguard at the oldest resort in the Dells its even a treat to live there. Please consider this if you do let me know! By the way I would watch your show just as much as Greys Anatomy.

It was an absolute thrill and pleasure getting to meet you at the Orlando Travel show and the photo op was a wonderful bonus!
To all of you inquiring minds out there Sam is even more wonderful in person than how she appears on TV. Certainly what you see, is what you get.
Cheers!
