I have found a very useful Driving Guide for Denmark. If you are planning to go to this country by your own car or hire a car there, this information should be very important for you.

The driving conditions in Denmark are similar to the other Scandinavian countries. The roads are generally in very good condition. The road signs and traffic rules may differ from your home country. Use this driving guide for driving Denmark to understand the similarities and differences. You will have a successful driving holiday if you follow these driving rules.
Driver’s License

EU license - Any license from an EU country is valid in Denmark

Non EU license - Most licenses are valid in their current form / Some countries require a translation

All drivers
Must be 18 years of age
Need to have a valid license from their home country
If you do not have a license from the EU, you might need an international driving permit (IDP). The IDP translates into many different languages and must be used in conjunction with your current license.

Speed Limits

Built up area (urban roads) - 50km/h
Rural roads (one lane) - 80 – 90km/h
Major highways - 110 – 130km/h

It is very important that you do not exceed the maximum speed limit. The police will set up traps to catch fast drivers. Speed cameras can also capture unlawful driving. The police are likely to give you a ticket that needs to be paid on the spot. Tickets that result from a speed camera will be charged to the credit card you supply to the rental company.

Rules of the Road

Flow of traffic:
- Drive on the RIGHT side of the road
- Only pass other cars on the left hand side

The driver
-May not have a blood alcohol content (BAC) over .05%
-Is not allowed to handle a mobile phone
-Cannot drive under the influence of any drugs
-Must use headlights at all times

Passengers
-Must wear seatbelts at all times
-Children under 135 cm must be in a proper booster
-Children under 3 years old must be in a child safety seat

Priority
-Pedestrians and cyclists have priority
-Cars on your right have the priority
-Yield to cars on your left in a roundabout
-Public transportation always has priority

If you follow these rules, there is no reason you will be fined by police. You can always get child safety seats from the rental company for a small fee.

Drinking a driving is strictly prohibited and you will face huge fines and or jail time if you are caught. Police can randomly stop cars and administer breathalyzer tests. Furthermore, they have a pupil meter to test if you are under the influence of certain drugs. Illicit and prescription drugs that hinder driving ability carry the same punishments as drinking and driving.

Parking in Denmark

Monday - Friday - Saturday- 8:00 – 18:00
8:00 – 17:00
28 DKK/hour (red zone)
17 DKK/hour (green zone)
10 DKK/hour (blue zone)

Sunday - All day - FREE

(10.00 DKK = 1.35 EUR, 1.20 GBP, 1.90 USD)

The table above gives the street parking prices for the city of Copenhagen. Parking in other cities will follow this same pattern or they will be less expensive. The other parking option is to leave your vehicle in a garage or public lot. The prices in these areas differ depending on the proximity to the city center. The advantage to parking in a lot is that you can leave your car hire all day without having to feed a meter. The street parking will often have maximum time limits and you will need to come back and add more time to your stay.
