Kensington Palace Orangery: One of London’s most spectacular buildings, designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor when he was Christopher Wren’s assistant, the building is one of the most original and breathtaking Baroque spaces. Built in a long basilica form with domed ante-chambers at either end, the effect is heightened by the entire interior being painted in pure white. And the big windows let all the light in. You get to it through glorious Kensington Gardens, so you can walk off the mammoth scones (and please, say scone as in ‘gone’, not as in ‘stone’), and there is even a Dutch Garden nearby to look at. Before you go in, look at the amazing brickwork, the bold rustication. And there, right there where they once grew the monarch’s oranges, you can drink tea and natter away with your friends.
