The most ‘continental’ looking of the London Baroque churches, St. John’s would not look out of place in Prague or Vienna. Instead, it fills a typical London square. For the past 30 years, it has been a concert venue, dedicated to a world-class program of chamber music, and concerts are always popular. When there, admire the exquisite plasterwork ceiling and marvel at how it is all a reconstruction, painstakingly put together after the church received a direct hit in the Blitz. Under the church, in the crypt is an intimate restaurant that does good pre-show food and is a good place to nip to in the interval for a glass (or two).
