Moonshine is ILLEGAL people. What can the producer be thinking? Sitting around a campfire drinking moonshine. Rumor also has it that one of the hosts Ken Cissna is a Federal Marshall. How can he allow MOONSHINE to be consumed.

I do know that it is legal to make a certain amount of wine for personal consumption , I think fifty gallons a year or something like that . There is probably a similiar law about distilled alcohol .

So What if they were!!? Good for THEM! There is far too much pettiness and political correctness in this world and too many people are worrying about living than living. Live and let live and worry about ones own self. Rant Over!

There is no provision for distilled spirits in the US. You can produce wine or beer but absolutely no distilled spirits. For a Federal Marshall to sit around distributing illegal likker to participants is grounds for loss of his badge and a felony conviction.

Lap....do you also say "Good for THEM" when someone robs a bank or shoots up a college? Laws are laws my friend and that is what this country is based on. Pettiness? I think not!

LOL - comparing drinking moonshine to robbery and murder says it all about you. Do not cast the first stone unless you have NEVER sped over the limit or jaywalked or committed any other victimless illegal act at all. Judge not lest you be judged! Enough Said!

I watched the show too. What turned my stomach was the way they tore through a Civil War Camp Site. Those sites are few and far between, and there was so much that could have been learned about camp life, but their methods destroyed any possibility of that ever happening. Sitting around the campfire swilling moonshine just show the mentality of this bunch. I also fault the landowner for letting this bunch trash a wonderful historical site. I wonder where those artifacts have ended up and whether they've been conserved. I hate to think that they are just stuffed in a box somewhere, slowly deteriorating to nothing.

Do you know why moonshine is illegal? Because the government can't figure out how to tax it. There is LEGAL moonshine called Everclear.

But, I would recommend you never watch anything out of Hollywood again. Maybe in 1 or 2 G movies thare is nothing illegal. And since you obviously don't understand folklore, it will just be better for your conscience.

Acutally you can buy legal moonshine, I have seen in in the liquor store its been a while. Like the one person said it more or less like everclear. As far as relics go the travel channel really should not be focusing on relic hunts. It truly does damage the archaeological record. If people want to walk arouund the beach or city park or use it for prospecting thats fine. And archaeologists have used them in battlefield surveys and sometimes use "relic hunters" to help in their investigations. People really should leave cultural resources alone if they have no intention of preserving catalogging and mapping their finds and never sell finds- period. I alot of hunters don't sell and thats good. I know there are several threads on looting/pothunting etc, but this show needs to not encourage that sort of relic hunting. Some people think its only one button buckle etc from a spot. Now take an area and if everyone took just one or two items what going to be left after a few years? Not much. I am sure this will stir up the fire of people who think its their birthright to go out with a metal dectector and go hunt on every site in their local area. Let the flames begin....

I just watched the show about using metal detectors around old plantations and civil war sites and I must say that although I generally enjoy the show, this one disappointed me. I believe what they were actually doing was looting archaeological sites. On private property yes, but their "treasures" contribute to the overall history of the area and if taken alone without fully documenting the entire site and additional related artifacts, the information, or "treasures", fall short of reconstructing history and the human experience. I hope that archaeological sites will be left alone in future episodes and that anyone reading this learns to appreciate historical sits, and not just the cool or pretty things that such a site may yield.

Deak,
"Let the flames begin"??? It's been over a week, and nothing. I'm sure you're disappointed that you can't return to your archeologist swells and tell them, "All I did was stand up for our right to force property owners to do with their property what we demand despite the fact that for 320 years it was beneath us to research their land or ask if we could dig, and they said mean things about me. Waaaaaaahhh."
Nope. No flames...far worse...you have been ignored. Probably because you have nothing to offer this forum.
Be well,
-Rocky.
