Believe me, I tried to find a story in Hawaii. It's was my goal just for the selfish reason that I haven't been to Hawaii in like... 10 years! (Geez, I need to get out more) We had an idea for doing a story about shells that are only found on the island further west than Kauai (excuse me for not remembering the name of that island). Sometimes those shells apparently make it to the west side of Kauai and the necklaces are pretty valuable. But, seriously, if you know of something we could do there, please post your ideas here on the forum. We take all suggestions.

I live on Kauai and I can tell you that the island you were thinking of Chris is Niihau. They have Niihau shells there and also here(kauai). The lei's or necklaces can be valuable after much hard work and effort to string them. Also looking for them on the beach is very time consuming and you need good eyes as they are very small.
As for other things here.I have heard of some old bottles found at the plantation camp houses, that can be valuable. Also we have a type of shell called Sunrise shells , which are highly coveted and used in crafting jewelry, necklaces and earings mostly. Also we have an array of shells they may be valuable in the retail stores in my experience are not that valuable other than as a personal collector.

Chris, perhaps you could finally do the show on dumpster diving there? Antiques? Maybe sunken ships? Pearls? Maybe WWII artifacts? Or perhaps the greatest treasure of Hawaii is the people!!! Smile LOL I was just thinking about the Brady Bunch Hawaii episode where they found an ancient statue, but I am certain that kind of stuff is reserved for the archaeologists and the sites are either private, protected, or both. Oh well... Smile Peridot is their most valuable gemstone. Try this site: http://www.globalcrystals.com/pages-news_article/article_id-16/index.html
Just kickin' out a few ideas in support of a Hawaii episode. Aloooooha! Smile P.S. You can't tell me that you are ready for more controversy in another bottle dig after what the last show about it produced, are you? Personally, I don't think that ratings are worth it to do another bottle dig, especially when when there are soooo many other opportunities out there for other kinds of treasures. Besides, I think your viewers would rather see new stuff as opposed to rehashing the old. However, I am certain there are a FEW exceptions. Smile Incidentally, when are you guys going to go international with the show (do shows in other parts of the world)?

After visiting the Big Island in September 08, have to say that it's known there's peridot on the southern tip of the island. On/near the green sand beaches, but very small in size. We stayed near Kona and downtown a few blocks East of the Visitor stand was a small flea market. It had a colorful sign along the street and huts to sell from. The Northeast corner had a jewelry hut with some-maybe 3 that I saw, rough/cut aqua blue agate pieces of good biscuit size. The prices were $75,100. Was tempting. Along the Kona beaches there's lots of ocean tumbled white coral and black volcanic stones. Driving north on the west coast you'll see people have deposited coral on the lava to make messages. Snorkelling is good. Cool

Didn't mention it but I was told the blue agate was native.
