This episode of Cash and Treasures was one of my favorites, because it actually gets into the history of our country. I was lucky enough to be on a dig with Larry and his Treasure Depot crew a few years ago, and what a hoot that man is. And man can he find treasures! Course he didn't find much in the episode. Glad Kirsten did! Hope you'll be making a third appearance on the show Larry. That's all for now.

It's through Larry and the Depot hunts that our countries past will be preserved. Too often historical sites are bulldozed for shopping centers and housing and once these relics of our past are paved over they are gone forever. To many of us the monetary value is nothing compared to the historical value. I'm proud to have been involved with the Depot hunts for the past 5 years and look forward to saving more of our heritage as the years go on.

It was a great episode. I have cash & treasures set up on Tivo and this episode was great. Made me wish the ground up north wasn't frozen with a few inches of snow on it right now. Nice job!!!

This was my new favorite episode. I have already watched it twice! Only way it could have been better is if it was longer. Must have been pretty tough to condense two days of hunting into a 30 min. show. Please do more of these types of shows!!!!

What a shame that Larry Cissna aka Texas Rebel is portrayed as someone trying to preserve history when he has single-handedly done more to allienate serious students of American History, Preservationist, and Archeologist than any other relic hunter. Your show feeds his big fat ego.

A really great program. It is about time that we see a show that shows a group of relic hunters, like Larry Cissna's Treasure Depot, are organized, responsible and trying to preserve history that has been buried before it is disintegrated. Thank you, Travel Channel, and Treasure Depot.

Now that was a great show! Made you want to get up and go preserve more history right then. Are we going to see more episodes? Maybe a site from Lincoln's War or earlier, say, 1812 site? Just thoughts. Enjoyed the heck out of the show!

This was the best episode of Cash and Treasures yet. My hobby is relic hunting, and this show captured the best of the hobby - saving history and having fun with good friends at the same time. Please more shows like this!

This show was excellent! I really enjoyed it! I had all my friends and family watch it, as it depicted an authenticity to what we are really doing in the woods. Great job Larry!

Great show! Thank you, Travel Channel, for an honest portrayal of the metal detecting hobby. The appreciation of history and the enthusiasm of the participants was very evident, especially by the lady that found the seven old coins in one hole. What a thrill that must have been! More metal detecting episodes would certainly be appreciated, and making them a full hour would be even better.

I want to see more C&T like this one!! What a great show!! Relic hunting was shown to be a fun and rewarding hobby. I like the idea of saveing our American history. What would happen to all those things if no one dug them up? Would they just sit there till they were lost? Keep up the good work C&T and same to you Larry Cisna!

I really enjoyed the show. So much of our history in the ground is being lost due to age, corrosion, the chemicals we put in the ground. Shows this hobby does preserve for future generations to enjoy. People not there can share in the excitement of finding that coin or button that hasn't seen light of day in 200 years. Well done!

I believe you posted negative comments about this man the last time he had a show on Cash & Treasures. If you don't like him why do you bother to watch his show and add nothing postive yourself to the history of our country??

It is trully ashame that people like you post such vile comments that shouldn't be included on forums like this. Please take your hate speech to a website it belongs on.

#1- I have never posted on this forum before. #2 - It is not "his show" although I'm sure he would like people to think that. There are other, more reputable people, who put on organized relic hunts the Travel Channel could feature. #3 - Your assumption that I have not added something positive to the history of our country is completely inaccurate. #4 - Cissna himself suggested that people post their opinion on this forum when he said "If you saw the show or after you see it, please go to the travel channel forums and give your thoughts in their forum... more publicity we get the better chance we get more shows.." The fact that you might not agree with "my thoughts" does not make them "vile." Oh, and by the way, it is no surprise that most of the posts here would be positive because Larry is having his Kool-Aid drinking buddies post on his behalf so he can "get (on) more shows." #5 - Larry bans anyone from the Treasure Depot forum who dares to disagree with him. #6 - I hope that forum readers who are not part of Larry's clique will realize that he does NOT represent the majority of relic hunters.

The hobby of metal detecting is a fast growing hobby. Relic hunting is only one aspect of the hobby, but it happens to be my personal favorite. I enjoyed the episode on Colonial relic hunting, and would like to see more shows devoted to the hobby, not only relic hunting, but beach hunting, underwater hunting, coin hunting in older yards and parks and playgrounds, etc. Perhaps showing the wholesome nature of the hobby, along with ethical detecting practices exercised by responsible detectorists, would help to open up such places as National and State Parks that are now off limits. I'm not talking about historical battlefields and such, just the general recreation areas of the parks. My opinion is that is was a good show, and we need to see more along the same, if not identical, lines.

This show was great. Thank you for putting something on tv about metal detecting. I have been metal detecting for about 10 years and your show really shed a good light on my hobby. Maybe you can show more shows like this one in the future. This hobby is one the whole family can participate in and enjoy.

Great show it is great to watch historical items come from the ground for all to enjoy. To many times a shopping mall is built over history. Thanks for the story and I would love to see a series on metal detecting. I now have Cash and Treasures autotuned!

Loved the show. I have been on many of Larry's hunts and they have been a great adventure. Larry is a fine man and l am glad we crossed paths. Love the show and its premise that everyday people can experience the joy of the hunt (not just the finding) of history, fossils or geology. Some professionals in all three fields feel the "public" is not qualified to hunt for these items and it should be left to them because "they" know best. The best proof of this wrongheaded thinking is, look at almost all of the reference books for artifacts on the American Military and see how many are written by "professional" archaeologists, a sorry few. Keep up the good work and we all look forward to many more shows.

I watched the show and was very pleased at what I saw. A group of men and women having fun and showing items that have been lost for hundreds of years. The people also seemed to have a lot of expertise in their hobby. It makes you wonder what is out there just under the ground. I hope to see more shows using metal detectors to find treasures. Thanks for letting me express my opinion.

I enjoyed the show. Relic hunters sure do have fun as they preserve history. It is really not about the monetary value but more about the rescue of the artifacts. Over my 30 years of relic hunting I have noticed that the relics are quickly becoming more deteriorated and many will soon be forever lost. Groups like Tresure Depot folks are doing a great service by rescuing those relics. Cash and Treasures is doing a great service by documenting these postive activities.

Sorry but once I saw that Larry Cissna was on the show, I had to flip the channel. Mr.Cissna has done more harm to the hobby of Civil War relic hunting than one would think possible. He is only out for himself and the mighty dollar. Say something that he doesn't agree with on his web site for instance and you will be instantly removed. Hundreds of folks have been banned from his site for just disagreeing with him. It is sad that such a great show didn't do any personal research on this egotistical vicious lost soul before putting him on the air.

Great show! If you watch closely you can see the respect for the uncovered history, and in the sharing of the rescue of the items. It doesn't matter if its a rusty fragment, a piece of horse hardware or a rare button, the reaction is one of respect. Thanks to Travel Channel and Treasure Depot.

I watched the show today. I only saw positive things about the "sport" of metal detecting. I didn't see or hear anything during the show to create negative feelings or views about relic and/or coin hunting or hunters. I don't know Larry Cisna or anyone from Treasure Depot, and have no feelings good or bad about those individuals. I was glad to see a show (including one a year or so ago) that would give a person that is unfamilar with detecting, a positives view!

I believe that it was a great show as was the last show done on the great sport of metal detecting! Larry does a great job of putting on these hunts and does all that he can to help the new people that get into the sport to have a good time and find some nice relics!

Larry Cissna is nothing special within the relic hunting community. This mental midget has many people fooled and is reaping the benefits ($$$$) by charging his minions in the hundreds of dollars each to dig relics on private lands that he has leased for the week-end hunts.
Recovered items are not reported to historical societies but pocketed, carried out of the area and sold on eBay or whatever. Any historical value is lost forever.

I agree, the channel should do more homework before they put or support anyone on thier shows, after watching the show a few months ago i signed up on larry's site and attended one of his hunts, after several guys spent roughly 650 each to go to this we were severely dissapointed, he held the hunt on a site that had allready been hunted by several large groups, a certain few butt kissers were allowed on site a day early, on top of that after the hunt his members start posting photos of finds supposedly from the site afetr i watched several of these guys venture off site to do digging, and as for SAVING HISTORY the nice catch phrase he likes to sling around, its just that a catchy phrase, upon arriving at his hunt this is what came right out of his mouth "the site has been hunted your going to have to work your tail off but there is stuff here, you are going to have to excavated and dig trenches in and all around these cellar holes and pick thorough it to find stuff"
needless to say by the time i left these sites had been destroyed beyond my own belief
He is not into saving history as I personally witnessed the destruction and he is a crook to boot, advertises one thing and delivers nothing close
To top it all off, you post a simple complaint on his site, you are verbally abused, insulted and then removed from his site alltogether.
I would like to thank the travel channel for helping him get the exposure he so greatly deserves.

I also attended the most recent GRD hunt Don Mannis talks about below... yes Larry told us that we should not expect to find much surface hunting, we needed to dig out trenches... and he did not want to hear that you did not find anything as he would show you up! Well he had 6 foot pry bars, heavy digging gear... and showed up prepared for this.. The people that were 50, could not, the people that flew in, were not prepared... people working solo, not an option... We were told on the web site before we paid out $200, that not all of the cellar holes were hunted and that thre were plenty of targets left in the ground... I saw a few coins and relics...

I posted after some heated discussion that I hoped that we could have a health conversation without attacking anyone and after posted were dissapearing... I said I hoped that what we were reading was not being sanatized...

I was immediately banned for life... I asked why... Larry told me in an email that I needed to grow as set and I should have seen him personally instead of going home like the 2 or 4 other cry babies and posting lies about him...

Here is part of Larry's Email to me... and note I posted nothing about my expierence except to say that I hoped we could have a discussion without personal attacks

"Your point posting your terrible time on the internet was to harm our hunts. Thats it in a nut shell. You have failed. We always have 2-3 cry babies at every hunt. No problem. Out with the old in with the new. There will always be 10 good folk to replace 1 bad one. Been that way since the beginning of time.

What really ticks me off is, if there are some that had a bad time, they should have talked to me in person. Instead, we get these people waiting to post it on the internet. There is no honor in that. I'm not a stupid man, and I totally understand WHY they wait till they get home. Some people need to get a set.

This was my 30ish event to put on over the past 11 years. It never fails at EVERY hunt no matter who holds it, theres always the few unhappy people posting on the forum instead of to your face while at the event. We get rid of them."

Most of the people I talked to were unhappy about the product they got... lots of people flew in, had room expenses... to get a few buttons and perhaps a toasted copper... No one knew, except a close few, that were needed to show up ready to sift and excavate... some people would have been more prepared of made different plans...

In 2006 Larry and 175 people were escorted off the land they were on when Larry could not produce a lease, signed contract or cancelled check to prove they paid for use of the land...
http://fredericksburg.com/News...2006/11292006/235492

Its a cash cow for Larry and if you say anything he will tell you to be a man, grow a set and ban you for life...

I have no illusions that you hit a site and 1700's coins just fall into your pocket... but like a guy going fishing... I just want to know there are still a few fish in I can get from the shore and not find out I need a boat after I arrive...

If you pay for a prodct, you have the right to an opinion about what you received... but Larry does not want the other people with $$$ in their pocket to ready another except "Larry is GOD and his hunts always yield tons and tons of great targets..."

Also note that Larry is not active in any of the major treasure hunting web sites... On the surface he is charming enough... but this hobby if filled with great guys and to have hundreds upon hundreds banned.... hmmm... is it all us?? Hard to tell as only the uneducated attack or ban anything they can't understand or agree with...

Shame on the Travel Chanel for promoting anything connected with Larry Cissna or his business, The Treasure Depot. He is a black eye on a good hobby. Want proof? Check out the Treasure Depot Off Topic Forum:
http://www.thetreasuredepot.co...ftopics/ot_config.pl
Warning: what you will find there is racist, crude, militant, anti American and not at all a representation of those in the otherwise good hobby of relic hunting. But it will you’re your eyes to what the man represents. Please, no more promotions or shows with this man.
