Call me crazy but I enjoy wandering through them, sitting on the benches and just doing nothing. I read of some who will bring a book inside and sit at their loved ones graves and read to them. It's very peaceful and gives me time to myself to ponder out problems or just to let my mind wander.

Myself, I go in and clean up some of the headstones, those who are in rough shape and go without care.

Afterwards I'm always leaving with a sense of peace, like I made a difference in someones life.. well afterlife.

So the question is is.. do you go into cemetaries, if so why and what do you do there?

I visit the cemetery that my dad and several of my other relatives are buried. I like to sit down in the middle of their plots (they're buried fairly close together) and talk about things that have happened to myself and the family members who are still living. I like to think my deceased family can hear me. It makes me feel a little better about things, especially if I've had a rough stretch of time lately.

I do that sometimes at my grandfather's plot. He died when I was little, but he always held a special place in my heart. When I'm really upset or something I'll write him a letter and or just sit in my room with my eyes closed and visualize his face and just talk to him quietly in my mind. Granted he never talked back but it was comforting knowing he was there with me.

Brian Harnois (formerly of TAPS) once said that graveyards are a good place to start if you want to try out EVPs.

The necropolis is a place of beauty.

Boo Brian is annoying as hell, mostly because he thinks he knows everything. Though it could just be his role on the show. hehe. I admit he's annoying, but he's a good investigator. I'd follow him in an investigation.. but I'd have a roll of duct tape with me Wink. Sometimes silence is golden.. ya know? lol

I love to go into cemetaries because I love to look at the history and it is a creepy but exciting just to go in there. Sometimes I would go in there just to see my passed on relitives and just talk to them or pray if im going through a tough week or if something important is going to happen in my life!

At a young age I use to play in a cemetery when we visited a family grave of a recently deceased member. Decades later, I still feel at home there among my friends. I don't have a sense that at night I would feel as comfortable even though I have no problem looking in there at night.

I go to the cemetery to visit my parents & grand parents grave's, but I also like to wander and look around. I like to go to the older parts and look and I always wonder what the person was like. A lot of history can be found in cemeteries.

This is just my opinion, but I only look at cemetaries as a sourse of gothic art. Some of the marble statues and headsones are beautiful. But as for a "ghost" point of view, I do not really believe spirits stay in cemetaries or near thier bodies. I believe they either visit this plane from time to time, pass on to the next level, haunt thier paces of tradgedy or love, or simply have no clue what has happened to them or what to do.

I like going into cemeteries at night. I go there and lay down by my aunt, uncle and grandma. Sometimes I talk to them and other times I just lay there staring up at the stars.

I moved into a place that is next to a cemetery. The first nights I slept there I had dreams about dead people in black clothes with white lace collars, one woman in particular because I was in the bunk beside here. I say bunk in jest. It was eerie.
On the funny side-Out my back door I saw a cat sitting near a headstone. I was happy to see cats in the neighborhood. The next day I looked out the back door and the cat is sitting there again. I waved and tried to call the cat over but it wouldn't budge.
The third day I looked out to see the same cat sitting in the same spot. I got on my shoes to go out for a closer look.
The cat is a small carved headstone.

My husband takes care of cemetary lots in his spare time (weed eats, puts rock on them, repairs tombstones, etc.), so we've spent lots of time in cemetaries. The most unusual time was at the cemetary here in the town where we live. He was putting rock on the lot. First, you have to poison all the grass, then put down black plastic. That's what he had gotten done one day before we went out to eat. On the way back, we saw some dark clouds & the wind was getting up. He said we'd better get some rock on the lot to keep the plastic down. So, we went to the cemetary & started putting rock on it. All of a sudden, there was such a drastic change in temperature that my glasses fogged up! I took my jacket off, I was so hot. In a few seconds, it was cold again! Also, the clouds seemed to never move the whole time we were there, but the moment we got in the truck to leave, it started raining.
We later had to go back to bury an urn for the family on that same lot & some of the family told me that they were distantly related to me through my father's mother. They also told me that the patriarch on the lot had been involved with the Ku Klux Klan around here!
By the way, I haven't stepped foot on the lot again, but my husband has & said the temperature change happened again.

yay. My family and I often take trips to cemetaries in WI to look after our relations.
I used to go and investigate an old cemetary just down the road from where I live. I used to think, could you actually call a cemetary "Haunted?" I'd bring a recorder with me to capture E.V.P's, a compass (a cheap EMF meter) and my basic curiosity. I took some pictures @ sunset. Now 90% of them had nothing, but I sure caught something in the other 10%!
It was a wide view of the cemetary from behind. What I caught was definitely unexpected. From above the graves, a partial see through form. Nothing really human like. It's really hard to describe. It's partially human, partially shapeless. Amongst the graves, you have a varitety of orbs. The thing that really confused me about this was, why were the orbs COLORED??!!!! they were all kinds. Basic reds, blues, yellows, VERY ODD to me. I had never seen anything like that. Can anyone tell me why these orbs were colored?
But anyhow, that is my story.

P.S. and yes, I caught a few E.V.P's as well.
nothing extraordinary to speak of.

P.S.S I went back to where I had taken the picture, but could'nt find any explaination for what I caught. Odd. VERY ODD.

I think that a cemetary is just a place where people go to honor their dead loved ones. When I go to visit my fathers grave, I am not afraid nor do I feel it is creepy there. I bring flowers and say a prayer, but do I believe that he could "haunt" the cemetary? No. Only bodies are buried. Not the souls. And isn't that what hauntings are, spirits and souls of the dead? I would believe it possible for my fathers spirit to be around me at his home, or garden, or a place that he loved or his loved one are at now, but not at the cemetary. He is not there, he was never there. That is not to say that I do not believe that there are certain haunted cemetaries. I am sure there are. And I agree with the person who said that they are like places of Gothic art. I especially love old cemetaries and the beautiful old fashioned headstones. You can learn so much by visiting a historic cemetary, about the people who lived and died in your town. It is so sad to see the little headstones of children that died hundreds of years ago of childhood illnesses that are so easily cured today.
I find all cemetaries to be very peaceful places, which is as it should be.

I realize that, I was simply sharing my story.
I didn't know if they were haunted or not back then. I do now. I know most are quite peaceful.

I don't see where cemeteries are haunted. I;ve been several times to bury love ones. I get a since of peace when i'm there. I do walk around and read other head-stones to get a sense of who that person was . The older grave yards have a lot history in them

I live right next to a cementary, i can see it quite clearly from my house. The dead will never hurt you. I plan to go with my parents+sister on a walk through there at night on halloween and then go to my grandparents house for a cook out. I made a new poll about what i should wear as a costume. Check it out if you can!

Thanks, lexi
