I have given thought to ghosthunting myself and there is a group about 20 miles away that does it. It seems to me when scientific measures are taken its really hard to get the spirits to cooperate. They seem to know they are being investigated and will not show themselves or be active. At least this is what I have noticed a lot on Tapps the tv show. Seems like the program most haunted live has more luck b/c while they have scientific equipment they also use psychics and mediums which I think is better than gadgets. Most ghosts seem to want to be acknowledge more then they want to be measured. Just my opinion.

SmileIm understanding that your wanting more members or perhaps a group to join? Post to the nearest local college on their website under the liberal arts section for requesting members/or any comments. Keep on doing this for a few weeks so people take you seriously. And your not too young, you just need a few tips. Desdemone

Did you find anything on the Queen Mary? It's stationed about a half hour from where I live. I'm interested to know if you saw any spirit activity there.

Are you in Ohio or did you just visit? I grew up in Ohio about 45 minutes away from Mansfield and I've actually never even gone on the tour there! Maybe some day! My local town has a lot of history - we were the last Wyandot Indian reservation in Ohio, we have a location where the Wyandots scalped the "enemy", a local church where the indians were converted to christianity and many more things. I've never really checked into hauntings nearby but now I'm curious. Guess I need to do some research!

For most of my life..they've found me, so to speak..but I'm actually going to try a place called Bloody Pond soon. It's on Rt. 9 as you enter into Lake George,NY. 150 British soldiers were masacred there. The colonial soldiers and Ind*ans buried them in the bottom of the pond. There is a historical marker on the side of the road to mark the masacre. Supposedly their ghosts roam the woods there. I've only been in this area for a short time, but my husband was born and raised here...that's one spot he suggested.

Central New York has a couple of ghost hunting and paranormal investigation groups. Well Lake George isn't really Central New York but I bet you can find a group in your area.

Do you know how to avoid the cardinal sins of ghosthunting before you venture out into the battlefield?

1. Never go alone!
2. Always respect all posted signs including No Trespassing and park hours.
3. If you only take one piece of equipment with you it should be at the very least a pad and pen.
4. Be respectful of both the spirits and the neighbors.
5. Never just show up alone after meeting what you think is a ghost hunting group online. There are 3 documented cases so far of young people going to hook up with what they thought was a ghost hunting group. Ended up being, in 2 cases, an internet predator waiting in a motel room. The third case was a young man who was beaten and robbed by the supposed ghost hunters.
6. Never go into a building or area which looks derelict. There is another documented case of someone falling through rotten boards into an old well.
7. If you want to investigate in a historic area like a battlefield....GET PERMISSION from the parks commision or whomever oversees the place.

Simple rules, but follow them and your experience will be enlightening. Smile

Thanks orby... Smile
You can't even get down to it safely(Bloody Pond) because it's all overgrown, and I'm not that brave. Eek I just thought about going to where you can see it the best from the side of the road and stay in the car! I pass it all the time, but haven't even slowed down long enough to get a good look.

Yep... I'm one. Probably the most famous place I've investigated to date is Waverly Hills Sanatorium.

While I agree with most of orby's 'rules'... particularly for the beginner... it's not unlike scuba-diving. If you're new at it, you need to learn the theory and basics... and go with veterans the first X number of times. There can be some dangers... and, the unknowing can sometimes get seriously injured... or even seriously killed (not from ghosts... from the everyday, mundane kind of things).

However- many, if not most, of these dangers are really common sense things. I specialize in derelict buildings/structures, as well as lone investigations... and even long forgotten cemeteries in the mountains, miles from any roads. Fear can be sensed, and if you excrude it, creatures of all sorts will know it... be they animals, people, or spirits.

I'd have to agree, though... don't start off new, after watching Ghost Hunters... especially with no one who is experienced. It just makes good sense to locate a group, join-up, and go investigating with them.

In St. Augustine there is a tour that is available that offers a BASIC introduction to Paranormal investigation. It covers the history, classifications of types of hauntings, and how the equipment works (guests use an EMF meter for the duration of the tour. It is a great experiance, the owner/operator is highly educated, and is very interactive during the tour. The tour has been in operation for the last several years and there is a collection of photos that will make even the most skeptical person question their belief. These photos are shared nightly with tour guests, as the photos show activity at the locations that the group had visited. Nothing on this tour is rigged, and it is not meant to scare, but dealing with the paranormal, things happen.

That would be so awesome to go on this tour. I was at St. Augustines fort when I was very young. Of course it was during the day and it was with my parents and grandparent. Now I would love to take the haunted tour. I think it would be neat to see if I could find anything and catch something on film. Wow!

The fort has its own history, but there is so much more to that town than just St. George St. The streets behind the Spanish Military Hospital have alot to offer. The tour that I have suggested is really neat and worth the money, I can not sit here and say that you "will" catch something on film, but the chances are really good. I join the tour as a tag along just to watch the guests and how they interact with the meters and how they respond to the energy in the area.

Best of Luck

I just moved to a small town outside of Butte Montana. The first thing I inquired about was where are the haunted places besides the battle grounds(I want to check them out also)The local people were full of suggestions old mansions, firehouses theres a old prison in deer lodge that has ghost tours and of course they have ghost towns here so my summer will be quite facinating.

It is nice that the local people are willing to share information about the local haunts. That really don't happen much, as people sometimes don't like to talk about their ghosts.

It must be nice to live in Pa, and even neater to be close to an asylum.....as long as it is closed for business! What kind of things have you run across in there? I am a Tour Guide in St. Augustine FL., and I have seen some crazy things that are related to the paranormal activity in that town, not to mention the photos that are captured. I do look forward to hearing of your experiances in the asylum, and in exchange I will share a few of my own experiances.

Best of luck
