I was talking to a friend down the street who told me she has been seeing a strange looking creature that runs across the field behind her home. She said it somewhat resembles a dog of sorts, but not quite exactly. I asked her if it might be a coyote or fox, but she said it didn't look like either of those types of animals, either. I suppose I'll be keeping tabs on the situation for a few days and report on what I find out.

Hi Bossman. Let us know what you find out. One way or another. She could always call the local university and speak to some one in Zoology(?) Not sure if that is what it is. But if so they may be able to help her if she can give a good description of it. If not maybe she can some how try to take a photo or video of it.

It could very well be a feral dog. they do tend to have a slightly different appearance than normal dogs.

Heeeey, I'm back! My computer was down for almost a month with a virus! After my kids got out of school for the summer, they went to some game sites without permission and somehow downloaded some trojan horses among other things. My wife was able to fix the computer after awhile, but it still drags a bit when its used.
Anyhow, my friend and I have come to the conclusion that the "creature" is probably some sort of wild dog or something. I still haven't seen it, but she said it got a little closer to the house about a week and a half ago and it looked a bit more like a dog than it did from a distance. Dog or not, I still advised her to not let her children play in the backyard without supervision. I've heard horror stories about wild dogs running in packs and attacking just about anything they think they can bring down. It seems that when they gang up in packs, they tend to loose their fear of things they would otherwise think twice about taking on alone. I've encountered people who behave like that during my career . . .
I hope everyone is still doing well. Y'all behave!

Bossman.....I think you're on the right track with it being a wild dog of some sort, and you're especially smart to be giving the advice about packs of dogs, remember people ALL dogs descended from wolves, which are very large dogs themselves but almost would never go after an adult human by itself, but in a pack they will at times even go after adult bears!!! So never underestimate a dog, you may not see the other two stalking you.....As an alternative to that above answer, it could be a fox, a large cat,<<---yes i said it,...but more than likely if its not a feral dog then it's probably a coyote....they still range all over north america...and in the last few months have been blamed for numerous attacks on small children, they are opportunistic scavengers that have adapted to urban sprawl....DO NOT underestimate them....If it's a pressing issue, set up a camera near the location or put out some food, do some calls, etc....Always do everything in pairs, not just for safety, but to help elaborate some details that you may not remember. That's my two sense, now I'm off to be more intrigued with your stories Bossman!
