I cannot believe someone would recommend this place as its a total tourist trap! look at the lines people! are there ANY chinese folk in there? I do not think so, this place is a greasy spoon and is only popular amongst tourists who do not know anything remotely close to chinese food. If you want real, authentic cantonese food try Yank Sing, citiview, in SF. PLEASE!
I found two Yak Sings: 49 Stevenson (& Ecker) & 101 Spear St (& Mission). Which one are you taling about? I'll be in SF late July & willing to try it/them out. (I'll be staying in North Beach, where House of Nanking is much closer.)
House of Nanking is highly recommended by 'The Underground Guide to San Francisco' & 'Broke Ass Stuart's Guide to Living Cheaply in San Francisco'. Some people just can't afford authentic & make the best of greasy spoons.
I was just in San Fran last week. I never could get into the House of Nanking because it was always so filled up. And, in the evenings, there would be long lines at the front. And most of them are Chinese. So say what you want about the place, but a lot of people love it & keep it operating.
