House of NanKing is fabulous!!! Stopped in one afternoon and the chief what I liked. I said shrimp and spicy. He made a special dish for me and it was unbelievable. I still remember that meal. It is a must do in SFO.

This is the best Chinese food in San Fran. I pop in every time I am in that beautiful city. It is famous for the chef telling you want you want and ordering for you. I tried this last time I was there. Although it was funny, I wouldn't recommend it as he ordered a bunch of stuff I wouldn't typically eat and it got a little pricey. This place has great food. I just recommend ordering what you like and not trusting the chef.

House of Nanking?... Are serious... You obviously aren't from or anywhere near SF... As an SF Native that grew up in the Haight in the 70's and 80's before the dot com infiltration, I'd very much like to clue in people ignorant to SF culture, history, and resaurants worthy of eating at in SF to both you and Mr. Boardain. But unfortunately, when I suggested to the No Reservations production executives months ago that SF is a "no brainer" destination for No Reservations, they decided to go with LA instead. Insulting at best. SF is clearly more NY than LA. Maybe one of these days they will figure out that SF is more than Cable Cars and Hippies, but instead a tough and rough culture of locals who are pissed off that thier city has been cast as a bunch of tree hugging, internet geek, transplants that have nothing to do with the heart and soul of SF. I hope the producers of No Reservations see this and finally do the right thing and give SF it's props..

Out,

Kirk D. Morrison

House of Nan King

Being from Texas and Arizona, we don't have real chinese food.

The House of Nanking was like a full mouth orgasm.

The sweet potato dish, the egg rolls, everything about it was so good. I can't believe how tiny the kitchen is for how big the restaurant is. I also enjoyed the 'velvet rope' line outside to get in. Made it seem much more posh than it really was.

My fave is the Joy Hing BBQ Noodle House, on Stockton, between Washington & Clay. I usually have the duck, (No one does duck like the Chinese.) but also the beef & pork dishes are very enjoyable. Just about anything, in those sauces, with vegetables, & on steamed rice, are irrestistable.
