Hippie Hollow is actually on Lake Travis - not Lake Austin, but never-the-less, it is a beautiful lake to go to. If it is not too cold, a great place to go for a swim!

If you have time, you can drive to Fredericksburg an hour drive out west from Austin. This is a town originally settled by German immigrants. The town has kept much of its German character despite all the tourism and development. There is a main street with lots of shops and restaurants. It is a beautiful drive and cool destination. Also, just north of Fredericksburg is a 400' tall granite rock called Enchanted Rock. It is a state park and an awesome place to go hiking. I believe the entrance fee is $10 per car.

As said before, The Bats.

That was the first thing that I ever did in Austin, I went with my family and sat within feet of the bridge and watched the bats fly over. You can even hear them, and its pretty funny to see the screaming people run because they didn't think they would fly so low. They do, but they will never hit you.

Also as said before, go and see a football game. Doesn't matter if it is college, highschool, or some kids playing in the park; Texas is all about football, it is almost a religion for us.

Football is a must in Austin, and like southernfan said go to whatever kind of game that you can. You'll just see people playing.

If you are able to take a tour around UT (Hook 'Em Horns, sorry I'm a fan). It's a beautiful campus.

Also, I believe they have this in Austin, but not sure. If they do go to Whataburger. Some people like the burgers and some don't. I love them so I recomend them. Smile Have fun in Austin!

Make sure to check out the University of Texas at Austin. If you want you can even take a campus tour. Also, if you want to taste Mexican culture, you can take a side trip to San Antonio. In San Antonio make sure to go to the River walk for great food and dining and the Alamo.

If the last city is San Francisco, maybe some of the tj's can make a short side trip to Los Angeles. It would be a shame to miss L.A.

Since they were commenting on how big everything was in america send them to the biggest home in america which i happen to live 10 miles from which is the Biltmore estate (in Asheville, NC)which you might have seen as the Rich house in richie rich. Let me just give u some facts real quick, America's largest home boasts 250 rooms, 65 fireplaces, an indoor pool, bowling alley, priceless art and antiques. And the floor plan covers a total of 4 acres itself alone, has its own winery and Many gardens not to mention it is 100years old. Just thought this would be an interesting place for them to go since i have been there many times and find it quite interesting.

Really I mean it... Jack in the Box is the best fast food chain. What do Americans have all the time? Fast Food! Plus it's one of the healther things you can find in a chain food store. One taco has 160 calories...a small fry is 270 calories.

One more thing, only ask for Queso in Texas. It just means cheese in spanish and if you ask for it anywhere else (like California) they will think you are wierd.

Also...
Up and down California there are 21 Missions. In fourth grade (9years old) every child learns about their state's history. All my schooling was in California. We did lots of reports and sugar cube Missions.

I moved to Lubbock, Texas and miss California so much. Have fun in my home state and new home.

If you go to LA go to the La Brea Tar Pits . The pits are free but the Page Museum is $7 and $4.50 with student ID. If the money is used up don't worry the fun part is outside anyways. Also the Art Museum is there too and it is free after 5pm. Then the Santa Monica Pier is great people watching area. But you most go take a day trip to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo it is the BEST! They are the best a what they do. Plus it's a fun town and my Great Grandpa made the Museum of Man in Balboa Park. Then Sea Port Village and Old Town are great.

Between LA and San Franciso which ever you go to, take a day trip to Hearst Caslte . 165-room of beauty...it is one of America's greatest Castles. I love the pools indoor and out. There are different tours that bus you up a hill and show different parts of the home. I LOVE IT! I've been there many times and still haven't seen it all.

San Franciso go to Pier 39. Must take a Cable-car. Day trips to Napa for wine or Yosemite for camping. The Charles M. Schulz Museum He is the man that made the "Peanuts" cartoon and everyone grew up with the cartoon in the newspaper. It's an hour up the 101 plus you go over the Golden Gate Bridge. A Comedy club would be fun and cheap. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is the BEST. But it is another day trip.

Fun travels...

There is a little town (30 minute drive) south of Austin called Gruene, TX. It's on the river and features some of the best Texas food (Chicken Fried Steak, Texas Hamburger)at the Gristmill Restaurant. It is also home of the Gruene Hall where many great Texas Country Music and Rockabilly Bands have been known to play.
I took some friends from Seattle there and they thought it was the epitomy of what they expected a Texas town to feel like. They especially liked it when the hostess said she'd "hollar at ya'll" when the table is ready.
