Please post your food challenge suggestions here for this state. If you have photos and video of the location, please upload them on our What's Your Trip site.
Here are some past posts about locations in this state: K & I Diner, Albuquerque Originally posted by: elliottvo The Travis ,served on a silver platter, is a bean burrito cover with cheese and chili then piled high with french fries. Not many can eat the whole thing. Eat one in a hour or less and it’s free. LOL good luck. Check out the link http://nmgastronome.com/blog/?p=306 Fire Eater Challenge - Sadie's New Mexican Restaurant, Albuquerque Originally posted by: ladygreysue As a true New Mexican and lover of hot chile (no, not the kind with beans... although pintos are good on the side), I would love to see Adam come to Albuquerque and have some traditional New Mexican food in the form of an Enchilada plate con papas at Sadie's New Mexican Restaurant. Penny's Diner, Vaughn Originally posted by: tlg88321 Do you dare to try Anthony's Challenge???? Many have tried, only two have succeeded. Started over a year ago, Anthony's Challenge is hard to beat. The challenger is given a quadruple patty cheeseburger with all the fixings, a dinner salad with four crackers, a basket of fries, a large shake and unlimited water. Doesn't sound bad right? The thing is, you only have thirty minutes to consume everything AND keep it down. If you do, your meal and a "sponsor's" meal is paid for. If not, you owe $19.00 plus whatever the charge is for the sponsor's meal. Penny's Diner, Junction of Highways 285/60/54, Vaughn, NM 88353. 575/584/8733. Come on down and give it a whirl! |

Has anyone recommended taking on "the Travis" at the K & I Diner in Albuquerque? The full Travis is served on a silver tray (the big tea service things) and is basically two very large bean burritos that stretch from one end to the other, smothered in a chile sauce, et al, and then topped with one or two baskets of french fries. You can order a quarter Travis (I haven't finished this yet), a half-Travis, or the whole Travis. Should you finish a whole Travis, you get your picture on the wall (and a certificate, I think). Not many posted...
Enjoy! CR |

There is a frozen custard place here in Albuquerque called CHILLZ (located near UNM on Central, just west of Girard) They just opened, but show a lot of promise. I had a sundae there and it was really tasty. But also, they have a CHILLZ Challenge, which is "Eat 8 waffles, 8 scoops, and 8 toppings under 30 minutes and it's free". I thought it would be a neat place for MAN Vs. FOOD to go, plus the place could use the publicity.

DIRTY BURGER
I just got "dirty" at the Nob Hill Grill. The dirty burger is a Kobe beef burger topped with cheese, onion straws,a fried egg, bacon and foie gras mayonnaise. This monstrosity is accompanied by a pile of parmesan truffle oil fries. When you finish you get a "dirty" t-shirt. It's well worth the aftermath. Come get dirty with us in Albuquerque! |

The Frontier Restaurant is a place that UNM students go, families go, and drunks go at 2 a.m. It's open 24 hours, serves good food, giant cinnamon rolls, is shaped like a barn, and is covered in portraits of John Wayne.

K & I Diner is a must!! If you can take down a Silver Platter Travis you are a man-god. Not only is the Travis enourmous, but it also tastes fantastic, real New Mexican cooking!
I lived in NM for 23 years, the one thing that I crave more than anything when thinking of home...GREEN CHILI!!! You cant really get it anywhere else in the country (without special efforts). I am not talking the canned store bought stuff from the Mexican section of the grocery. I am talking real, fresh, fire roasted GREEN CHILI! In Albuquerque it is very prevalent (you can even order a Green Chili Cheese Burger at McDonald's). Dos Hermanos makes some classic NM food as well...all the way down to the handmade tortillas. |

Hi my name is Kurt Nilson and I am the owner of Chillz Frozen Custard. I would personally like to invite Adam to come down to attempt the Chillz Challenge. Right now he has the opportunity of the distinguished honor of being the first to complete the challenge. The first two attempts proved to be futile, but I'm a big fan of the show and I know Adam can do it. The challenge consists of 8 mini belgian waffles each with a scoop of fresh made frozen custard on it topped with 8 different toppings of your choice. If you finish in 30 minutes it is free, you get your picture on the wall and a t-shirt to commemorate your accomplishment. I have attached a picture from our first challenge attempt by Pablo Marquez. I hope to see you here!

K & I Diner is notorious here in Albuquerque! YOu gotta do a show here. Other places with hot food or monstrous burritos: Twisters (several locations around town) had a huge burrito, Sadie's has the hottest food in town, their green chili is too hot for me and I love hot food! Also, breakfasts at Weck's has the biggest portions I have seen in a restaurant anywhere.

Alright... as a true New Mexican... Adam, if you can take those jaberno fritters on (which look like NOTHING by the way) IF you really want some spicy food, GET YOUR BUTT TO NUEVO MEXICO at Sadie's Restuarant. I Dare you.

I also recommend Sadies. If the stuffed sopapillas were not big enough before… They’ve recently added a sopapilla challenge to the menu. The typical “eat it all, and its free” challenge.. But the food there is delicious enough that I don’t understand why they need a gimmick in the first place. It’s a 5 pound stuffed sopapilla with your choice of spicy ground beef, carne adovada or chicken. Served with potatoes and beans. Garnished with red or green chilie sauce in addition to lettuce, tomatoes and onions. My server said it’s about the size of a pizza tray. If you finish it within an hour, it’s free and you get a bunch of Sadies loot. (And a wheel barrow to get you out of the restaurant.)
Sadies has already been featured on Food Network in an episode of “The Secret Life Of:” series, featuring Southwestern cuisine. But I love that place and would like to see it on The Travel Channel. =) http://www.sadiessalsa.com/ |

In Albuquerque, NM Sadie's has a 3 lb. stuff sopapilla challenge. The sopapilla is 3 pounds with an additional 3 pounds of sides. All have to be finished in an hour. Adam, you up for the challenge?
