Please post your food challenge suggestions here for this state. If you have photos and video of the location, please upload them on our What's Your Trip site.

Here are some past posts about locations in this state:

Sandpiper Seafood, Clinton

It consists of 3 saltine crackers, each one is covered with one half cup of fresh ground horseradish, then a Jalapeno pepper. This is then followed by a raw oyster, Tabasco sauce, then black pepper until you can't even see what lies underneath. By the third one you are really hurting. But the reward is a free T-shirt that says "I can hang with the Funky Monkey". Enjoy!!

Please visit Mi Barrio Mexican Restaurant, 5023 Wake Forest Hwy, Durham NC 919-957-9069. This restaurant is actually situated in a gas station lot with a fish and bait tackle store and a little beauty parlor next door. It is a small, no frills, 100% authentic and cheap cheap cheaply priced restaurant. The portions are HUGE- my fellow Animal Control Officers and I hit it for lunch often and we are always stuffed! Everything comes with free dessert and the warm basket of chips and salsa never ends.

Hey Adam!
Saw this on Fox 10 News (Phoenix, AZ) this morning, and thought of you. In Lexington, NC, there is a restaurant called "Whitley's", that is now making a 12# pulled pork sandwich (un-named as of yet). Looked like a good challenge for ya!
Dig-in, dude!

Cold Sweat. . . . In Angier, NC (little tiny town close to Raleigh) there is an ice cream that truly lives up to its ominous name. It's made of peppers and hot sauces and packs a punch. Put it this way, to even sample the ice cream, you have to sign a waiver! I've seen several of my college buddies attempt a kid's serving of it and not one has completed the challenge, but I know you can Adam.

RED ROOSTER ANYONE???
The Place: SUNNY SIDE OYSTER BAR,
WILLIAMSTON, NC

Best oysters anywhere. Sometimes maintain hours out of oyster season, but the busiest time of the year is any month with an "R" in it (and anytime a local horse show or rodeo is going on)
The Challenge: How many Red Roosters can you eat?
Current Record: 42
The Food: From bottom to top: Cracker, layer of horseradish, 2 or 3 pickled peppers, fresh steamed oyster, Texaspete, black pepper, and enjoy.

The flavor is great, but 42 of em is NUTS.

Personally I average about 5 when I go. Of course you have your own shucker standing there for support and rooster making.

Adam... are you down for the challenge?

Hello, I am Russell Muller and I actually own a pizzeria in Mint Hill, NC. I make a 28" pizza that I challenge you to try and eat fully loaded, with your choice of five toppings. We also make a 32" pizza for anyone who really wants to try their appetites. No one person has been able to eat it, no two man teams have not been able to eat it either. The name of the restaurant is Big Guy's Pizza. We even were going to be on Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives, but we did not fit into their schedule. We are a family run restaurant and strive to have a very fun and friendly atmosphere. People can see the "big pizza" being made while we joke around with our customers and let them feel like they are in NY, which is where we came from.
We have had many people attempt to eat it and never have come close. We have had many people sit and root on the people trying, almost like a sports event. It is fun to watch. The challenge is set and if you would like to come and get defeated, bring it on. The website is www.bigguyspizza.net if you would like to check it out. Thanks and have a good day. We look forward to hearing from you.

Andy's Burgers is also located in Greensboro, NC and they too have the challenge. In Greensboro is a pizzaria of sorts called Angelias. They have an item on the menu called The Pig. It is a footlong with a lot of stuffed put in it and Adam if you can't handle that they also sell a Piglet which is a 6 inch sub. A few people can actually finish the sub there while a ton get to go boxes. Hope you can handle the challenge and come to Greensboro

Hey. My name is James Johnson and I run a seafood place in Apex, NC. We've got this huge challenge we started this month. Customers have 30 minutes to eat 1 pound of fish, 1 pound of shrimp, 1 pound of fries, a dozen hushpuppies, 12oz. of coleslaw, and a drink to wash it all down. This fish alone is bigger than your head! Our web site is www.skippersfish.com, check it out and step up to the table and see if you have what it takes.

Side note, Angier(Cold Sweat ice cream) is right down the road and there is an Andy's(burger) right across the street. Sounds like a show to me. Come see us.

I noticed that Andy's was mentioned on this thread. If you want to do Andy's the first ever Andy's is in Mount Olive and, of the Andy's I've had, they have the best of all the one's around my area and other parts of the state. It has the same challenge that everyone else has mentioned.

Also, there's a Sandpiper Seafood in La Grange that has a challenge called the Flaming Rooster. I've never done it, but I know it deals with oysters and hot sauce.

And, if you happen to come, in nearby Goldsboro is the best barbeque around: Wilbur's. Mouth watering good. So good that my friend from England loved it. Pizza Inn in Goldsboro is also really good. They have these dessert pizzas called pizzerts that are to die for. Every time I come home I want to go there just for that reason.

We have a weekend planned for Adam for the Spring. The last weekend of April in 2010 we would love for Adam to come be our Grand Puba of the 1st annual Food festival but also have not 1 but 3 food challenges for him here in the Crystal Coast area of North Carolina (Emerald Isle, Beaufort and Morehead city) makes up our trianlge of the county. We have plenty of amazing seafood and other restaurants to chose from but the premise of the show would be based on two challenges in existance and 1 he would help the owner create.

Andys Hamburgers in Swansboro NC
T&W Oyster Bar in Emerald Isle
The Village Market in Emerald Isle

There is also a pig out spot I can take him to on my boat (yes i'm a USCG licensed captain)and also have accomidation in ocean front properties for Adam and his crew. Would love to talk more about the challenge and being the Grand Puba of our Food Festival which we can hold the new challenge he would help The Village Market create.
so is adam up to three challenges in 3 days? Which would make for some great entertainment and I would be glad to take him to several other pig out spots here in the county.

Hello! Our names are Will & Jill (I know it's corny but it is true) and we are about to open up a new restaraunt in Fayetteville, NC. Together Will and I have helped open over 50 restaraunts all over the world for other concepts, but this will be the first location that is actually ours to keep. We cannot wait! The restaraunt is called Will's Grill and the menu consists of specialty burgers, hot dogs and awesome sandwiches. Our focus is to have really great food at a really great price. The decor is artwork painted by local students and everything in the restaraunt focuses on a home town feeling. With more and more military coming into town every month, we hope to get a lot of the military crowd in; but we also plan on attracting the locals as well. We plan on opening the doors with a bang and invite everyone to come try the mini bratwurst challenge! We are unsure of how many mini brats the challenge should consist of or how long we should give people to eat them. We would love Adam's help!!! Since he is the king of beating challenges we challenge him to be the first to set the standard for Will's Grill. Anyone that wants to compete with that is welcome to try as well! We open in November and really hope that it is a success!
