Please post your food challenge suggestions here for this state. If you have photos and video of the location, please upload them on our What's Your Trip site.

Here are some past posts about locations in this state:

Bingas Wingas, Portland

In Portland, Maine we have a single eatery where wings are large, cheap, and many people have tried to break their own personal records and the full record of 54 mild wings. Though the reason of why I'm posting, is because there is a challenge within a large group of people, to eat more than 30 wings with one of the US's hottest hot sauce. We call it the Chernobyl. I myself have never tried such a thing, but my father who is a taste tester of hot sauces has. Through everything he's tasted... nothing has made him cry so much. None other than the Chernobyl sauce made his whole face turn red and eyes water. That was just one wing.

Governor's, Various Locations

I have a great challenge for you to tackle up here in the great state of Maine. The restaurant is called Governor's and they have locations throughout the state. There are very well known and a very good spot to grab a bit. I even took my finance there for Valentines day because it’s so good. So here is the details of the challenge. The product is called "The Federal Deficit" Below is a description of it from there website, www.governorsrestaurant.com.
All our specials in one A delicious combination of our Banana Split, Brownie Delight, and Strawberry Shortcake, as
well as six large sundaes! We start with vanilla
Gifford’s ice cream, then add hot fudge, caramel,
peanut butter, blueberries, cherries, pineapple,

banana, a biscuit, a brownie, nuts, jimmies, and a
pile of whipped cream! No Take Outs. 17.99

Big G's Deli, Winslow

If you like a really big sandwich you need to come to Big G's Deli in Winslow Maine. A piece of bread measures roughly 12 inches by 12 inches by about a half-inch thick. The locals usually only order a half sandwich they’re so big. Also, Big G's has huge breakfasts and desserts, pancakes that take up an entire plate, a dessert cake called a woopie pie ( 2 9in round whole cakes with an inch of cream between them)

18 Wheeler

At Dysarts, a truck stop/restaurant just outside of Bangor there is an ice cream sunday called the 18 wheeler. It is 18 scoops and if you eat it all it is free.

I agree with mod_ben. You really need to go to both Bingas Wingas and (especially) Governor's. The Federal Deficit is huge and amazing and really needs to be completed by Adam!

I second the nod for Big G's. I was just up there visiting family and went for a half sandwich. It was huge and really tasty. I even took a picture of my 5 month old next to the sandwich so I could show my friends some perspective of how big it was.

Alright ill admit Big G's is a chore to stuff down the ol grocery hole..... but there is a place not far from Big G's that has a sandwich worthy of Man V Food!
Oakland Me. D&L market i believe the name of the little convenience store is, the sandwich, the BELLY BUSTER.... a half a sandwich is 12 inches long, and like 3-4 inches thick, i have a hearty appetite and a half of a half is quite damaging!

I came on here to specifically recommend Governor's. He does need to visit the one in Old Town/Orono, since that was the first location (to the best of my knowledge.) There is absolutely no way he could possibly eat the entire Deficit. I know in this challenge of Man vs Food, food will win. Big G's is a great place, but I think the challenge is weak. It would be a good place to see, but not to do as a challenge. The Deficit would truly spank Mr Richmond.

Bingas Wingas, Portland (now Bingas Stadium)

My boyfriend and I watch Man v. Food all the time and went into Bingas today. He ordered the hottest wings on their menu "'08 Fire Sauce". When they came just the scent wafting through the air was enough to make your eyes water. He LOVES hot foods but could only get through half a wing before it was too much to take. We were told by both a waitress and a waiter that next week they're changing the sauce to make it 30 times hotter and that they'll be using ghost chilies in it. The sauce is already made with extracts from the peppers. The atmosphere is great and the food is great as well. Their list of sauces is pretty long and varies with many different tastes. I had the Valley Girl (buffalo, bbq, and honey mustard). Lots of different choices, decent fare, all around good food. Their original restaurant burned down in 2008 and they just opened this new one up very recently. I've also heard that there's a private VIP room somewhere in the back with airplane seats. They have 25 beers on tap as well and all the college games on big screen to regular size tvs with tv screens in the booths as well. It's packed! I'd definitely recommend this place!!!

If you are looking for the hottest wing challenge ever, you must hit Hafford's Saloon and Restaurant in Waterville, ME. The "Venom Wing" challenge consists of 8 wings in 30 minutes with no milk allowed. The sauce rates at 1,250,000 Scoville units and is as bad as eating commercial grade pepper spray. I managed to eat all 8 in 17 minutes and was out of commision for 2 days. I have never in my life felt that much sheer pain from food.

Hey MVF crew, I go to school in RI and have a great idea for your show. You guys recently did an episode where Adam visited 3 different ball parks to sample their food. Well, you could try doing the same thing with college campus food or cafeteria food (if your brave). I know some of your biggest fans are college kids. We love the show and everyone knows we love to eat. As far as challenges go, you could possibly challenge a campus's best eater to an eat off if you can't find another challenge. New England has a great college base so there are a lot of opportunities to explore. My friends and I would really love to see a campus food episode, and good luck in your next battle with food.

A man with an idea, Johno Dorff

HEY MVF!!! You've got to send Adam to attempt the Federal Deficit at Govenor's!! Adam has said that he thought the kitchen sink challenge in San Fran was difficult . . . he had no idea how easy he had it!!

After all these seasons, he still hasn't made it to Maine. We've got some great challenges for him - I know my husband would like to personally challenge him to a super hot Thai food challenge (we've even found a restaurant to host). . .but I personally would like to see my husband avoid the heart attack . . . after all, isn't that what Adam gets paid for?? And I'd challenge him to a lobster-a-thon!! I'm sure we could open it to the poublic and raise some serious money for a charity!

Come to Govenor's. Try the Deficit, challenge my husband to the Thai challenge, and watch me eat him under the table in lobster. Come on up to Maine, unless you're afraid.

Just adding a Vote for Binga's Wingas.
All the Sauces have a rating and a regular buffalo sauce is a #1 on their scale. The 08 fire sauce is Classified as "Ridiculous" = off the scale, the Highest is a 5 and I personally haven't made it much past 4. The Hot Mango I believe is a 5 and Just one was enough for me. I have heard rumors of vomiting on contact about the "08 Fire sauce." It is violent...

If your in the mood for a big burger there is a 3 lb burger challenge at the All star bar and grill in yarmouth. The bun is even custom made. Dont forget the clambake and the fishermans platter captains portion. It is enough for a family of 4.
