I just finished watching the Ulles go to Cambodia. I've been to Cambodia a few times. The show did a horrible job of informing the public and made the Ulles look like idiots. I'm glad they mentioned the Killing Fields and Pol Pots' rise to power. The producers failed to mention that Pol Pot came to power as a result of America illegally bombing Cambodia during the Vietnam war. Oh well, only 2 million dead, sorry about that. I really wish the Ulles would do some reading about a place so they don't look so foolish. Albin was very insensitive when he said that living over Tonle Sap lake didn't look that bad. Those people are living on less than $2 a day (like 70% of the country) and bathe in the same water they take a dump in. Also, the travel channel didn't show one person missing a limb. There are tons of them in Siem Reap, people are still stepping on land mines there. I will never watch this misinforming show again.

We're watching the Ulles in Venice, and remarking how the show could ignore the art and architecture while making a big show of the Ulles surrounded by pidgeons. Then we spend too much time giving a big plug to a hotel where George Clooney stayed (now THAT'S important, and only the 3rd time he's mentioned on the show. It must be a good place to visit if he was there), and by-pass any museums or other sights to go for ice cream. At least they show some glass-making (the wife gets shown how to make a kitty). I believe the producers found a fairly 'low common denomenator' couple without pretense for the show, but the presentation omits a great deal of cultural value. It shows you can give people money, but you can't give them class in the sense of worldly awareness. Really, these two are about as informed about where they are as two twelve year olds, although some fifth graders may be smarter.

When they were visiting the Killing Fields and Chad says (I call Albin "Chad") "We're going to do what we can to get the word out" -- I actually started laughing. Gosh, thanks Chad.

So what I'd like to see now, is for each show to do an update on how Chad is getting the word out about the Killing Fields. Because people need to know.

Don't worry, "Chad's" already moved on to the next cause he's going to bring to the world...not!
