Two suggestions.
One- there is a terrific restaurant on the 4th floor of a building on Malioboro. I think it's in the Lonely Planet. I forget the name. Don't xtay on Malioboro--it's a madhouse. Two-- meet a local and have them take you to a market or local place, I did that and had a terrific meal. Jogja is on the cusp of Sundaneses and Javanese cuisine--I prefer Sundanese, as Javanese is a little sweet for my tasttes. ALso, Bahasa Indonesian is a very easy language to learn. Study it before you go and try to speak to the locals in it. They will appreciate it and it will open doors for you that will make your travel experience much richer. Here are a few pics and observations from my time in Jogja http://www.travelpod.com/trave...1237074960/tpod.html |
