Leaving for Ireland in about 2 weeks, specifically Dublin and Kilkenny, gonna be there for several days. Looking for some decent places to eat and drink myself into a stupor, on a fairly dimunative budget.
Most of the places I've found online and such are pizzerias, cafe's, burger joints... so yeah, if anyone has sugestions for good places to eat say, black pudding, haggis (I know that's Scottish, but can't get it here where I live), basically anything, pubs that don't suck... I'll take 'em.

While in Dublin, one must pay homage to the "church of Guinness". You've never had Guinness until you tried it there! There is a decent restaurant/bar on the top floor that serves good food. Up there, you have a 360 degree view of Dublin. Kilkenny is beautiful. There are decent places to eat that is very affordable close to the castle. Pub grub in Ireland is better than what you're used to here. Don't be surprised to see families with kids in a pub- it's normal. Remember when in Ireland, do not talk about religion or politics in a pub.

Go to Wicklow (outside of Dublin) and eat at the Avoca Weavers. The food there is the best and a good value. It is a cafeteria style set up and I don't believe they are open in the evening. They have amazing crafts.
Avoca also operates in Powerscourt House - south of Dublin. Well worth the trip.

Things are pricey in Dublin. Your best value is a pub lunch. Actually, some of the best pizza I have ever had has been in Ireland.

To add, never say anything bad about Bill Clinton either.

If you want good pubs Dublin is the place to go. We in the capital pride ourselves on havong some of the best in Ireland. Pricey yes but its worth for good Irish pint and great craic all round.
Temple Bar is Dublins best entertainment area. Pubs and clubs galore and a few nice resteraunts as well.
And pby the way talk politics all you want just be careful what you say and to who!

I used to live in Dublin (work abroad program), i've got a few recommendations!
My favorite chipper (forget beshofs!!!!!) is a place called the Lido. It was right near my house in D2 by Merion Square. O.k. so I can't give exact directions...but go to Lower Mount Street near Merion Sq. Walk a few (2?) blocks away from the city center towards ballsbridge. Then take a left and walk a few more blocks (it's a working class area, not seedy...just kinda gritty). Just ask around for the Lido chipper, it's well known. Sorry my directions are so vague but I saw your post and just had to tell someone about The Lido. Best skate, curry chips, and scallops in Dublin...and it's cheap!
