Dubai was a sleepy little fishing village until the Americans and Europeans came and educated the middle-easterners how to get the oil out of the ocean floor. Soon the little village became awash with Americans and other "ex-patriots" from around the globe. The Jumeriah American School educated so many of us, preparing us for life in the real world while living in a "Fantasy world" overseas, far from the reality of American life. The food was a central point of our childhood, as there was not much for the younger generation of expat's to do, but go out to eat at the local favorite spots. A large group of us have re-connected on FB and have posted so many pictures of life as we knew it and the story sharing has been overwhelming. We would love to share our view point of growing up overseas to a world that is just now learning of the wonderful place that 10 years ago nobody had ever heard of. Our love for the food from days gone by has never left us, as we reunited in 2009 at a classmates ranch, the dish known as Hummos was prepared by several of us, memories flooded our taste buds as tears welled up in our eyes and smiles broke out on our faces, it is amazing how the taste buds send you whirling back in time, to long lost loving memories.
We would love to share our pictures and stories with you, bringing back to life a time that we all cherish and would live all over again.
We love the shows on the Travel Channel and would love to bring to life the old days of Dubai for the thousands of people that have lived and love Dubai over the past 30 years.
Enjoying the Travel Channel and loving Anthony Bourdain

Isn't Dubai hurting right now? I've read several stories about foreigners being jailed for things as small as writing a bad check. One Frenchman escaped what he says was a trumped up charge and jail term by escaping disguised as a woman in a full burkha. I've also read that the kingdom is pretty much broke and will need to be bailed out by other members of the UAE.
I didn't think there was much oil in Dubai but plenty of oil in the other emirates near it. Is that true?
