Dear Tony,
What can I say? I love your snark, your walk, your hair, the way you eat, travel, drink and think (and) did I mention SNARK?
Once my Mom and I went to Yolapa from Puerta Vallarta on a fairy. On the way we had to stop and pick up some tourists from a cruise ship, dutifully carrying their box lunches (eye roll)...
We waded in to this very "x-pat", little Mexican/American community and headed right for the bar - restaurant that was sitting on the sand, with a thatched grass roof and ordered drinks and cevichi. Had to wait for the drinks as the ice was being brought up the beach from the fairy. We sipped cold beer and watched our cruise ship companions place their box lunches on a blanket on the beach.
We could see the ocean and beach from our wonderful little grass shack...enjoying the delicious, spicy raw fish...and yes..by now..our wonderful margaritas, the way they should be made, tequila, lime juice and Triple Sec, shaken not blended..thank you!
Then it happened, one of my favorite moments of travel..a gang of very large pigs hit the beach with one thing on their piggy minds, lunch! Oh yeah, we could see lunch boxes flying into the air, the contents being devoured by our four legged favorites. Clearly they have done this before!! God I love them! The expressions on the faces of our boat people, PRICELESS! I'm sure most of them went hungry and I for one felt justice had been served.
I loved your new season opener from Mexico, I too love the street food in Mexico. You didn't look very happy in D.C. or Venice, but got the spark back in the Azores..that was a great show! I didn't know anything about the Azores, thank you I got very hungry for Octopus!
My dream some day is to be the proud owner of an open air Tiki Bar in Kona on the big island of Hawaii. I am going to call it "Hurricane Lila's" after my Mother. Slap on a sarong, put a flower behind my ear, mix drinks, make pupu's and write. Hope you can visit some day!!
In the meantime, happy trails Tony. You're a breath of fresh air in this much too buttoned down world. I look forward to more of your books and many more of your shows.
All kinds of blessings! Rebecca Evans Reno, Nevada - USA
