If you have not been you must go. The Netherland is a fascinating country. It has a beach, obviously farm land and veryy unique urban life. I was most blown away by a family of four I saw early one morning in Amsterdam. They where all on bikes. The guy in a suit, the mom well dressed but obviously off, and two kids with book bags. They stopped dad kissed mom and I guess said good by to the kids and went off and the mom drove with the kids down the block to a school. How to simplify and save our world by this family of four. Obviously the city has many other draws museums, sites and whatever, but thats the first thing that pops into my mind when someone mentions A'Dam. So go have fun, stay up late. But look a the people around you there, the locals and you will see.

There are other things that pop into my mind when you say "Amsterdam".

Given his tendencies for recreational substances, I don't think Tony would ever leave.

Yes, Foodiefan, he might just want to set up house there. :-D

When I think of Amsterdam, I think of the tasty rijstaffel they have there in a restaurant off the main square. It's so yummy!

There are good and bad sides to Amsterdam, and I've experienced both sides. The drug thing isn't as rosey close-up: empty crack vials littering the streets, people staggering around cranked out of their gourds. The people in general are friendly and multi-lingual, the arts scene is great: must see Van Gogh museum -- it'll take your breath away.
