I've always been a fan of eating the "nasty" bits of animals. I've got Latino, Native American, and eastern European blood in me, so gut eating is in my genes. I get a craving for the good stuff and go to my favorite local carneceria to pick up some tripas to fry up, and within a month from my last visit, the price shot up from about $4 U.S. to $9 U.S. a freaking pound. My great-grandfather and grandfather was/are butchers. My grandmother worked with them till the shop closed, my mother and aunt worked in their shops till they left home. They all said they never could give this stuff away, now all of a sudden, its "gourmet". Im just angry and venting, and figured this would be a place to voice my frustration, as Im sure there are other gut-chewers here who are ticked off as I am. Venting...Venting...Done. Bought my guts anyway and im gonna fry them up. Lengua is on sale next week...for 7 bucks a pound.
