Like most of us, travel for students is a costly enterprise. But I learned as a college student that a study abroad program is the best way to see some of the world and get a truly priceless experience. Being someone who speaks only English, I chose Kingston University outside London.

Yeah, it's expensive, but my school set me up with a room rented by a nice little family, so it wasn't too bad.

I started in the fall after the high season, so the flights were a bit cheaper.

Being there from September to December, the weather was very nice.

Being in London, my fellow students and I were able to get great bus rates to Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam and Edinburgh.

Traveling in groups of 4 - 6 we stayed in Hostels and could help keep an eye on each other for safety. Plus, staying in hostels led to meeting and interacting with other students from all over the world.

Hostel experience: First day in Paris we got some cheese, bread and inexpensive wine, (came to less than $10) and dined in the Hostel's common area. Within an hour others from Greece, England, Sweden, Japan, Taiwan, China, Serbia, Hungary and a few other countries joined us and we all had a great time exchanging stories, teasing each other about our respective country's faults, (all in fun)and giving each other advice on where to go should we travel to the other's country.

Very fun and probably did more for eventual world peace than a hundre sessions at the UN. There's something magical about Wine, cheese, bread and good conversation.
