Hi everyone, I'm a new member but I've had the joy of reading posts on this board for months. I am planning a trip to Teague Korea with my 10 yr old son. I'd like some suggestions on what to see and where to go to experience the true local flavor while we're there. Please help.

I've been through Teague back in 1987. But mostly in Pohang and Pusan, compliments of the US Marine Corps. Loved every second! Local markets and food venders are the best. Keep an open mind. The grilled dried squid smells but tastes great. I'm sure a lot has changed (or maybe not). The best advice is to contact a US Army type since they are stationed over there all the time. Lucky SOB's!! And yes freshly butchered dogs are displayed in the open markets and taste like any other meat. Again, keep an open mind !!

From eating Korean from immigrants, in Japan, and restaurants in Atlanta (which seems to have a big Korean population), I can tell you this:
1: Be ready for heat. Koreans, in my experience, really love spicy stuff and you will figure this out as soon as you eat something. Drinking beer will help it cool off.
2: Korean food doesn't smell too nice but tastes really good. Whether it is kimchi, or the anchovy salad they make or even some BBQ, Korean food can smell nasty at times. It still tastes great though.
3: Don't ask where it came from. There are some places that will serve horse or dog or sometimes other stuff. If you don't know what it is and eat it, you will probably love it, if you do ask, you probably won't try it. Just eat it.
4. Try Korean BBQ. I am not sure why this isn't more popular in the states, but Korean BBQ is the best. Spiced meat over charcoals or gas flame grills at your table. Tons of other Korean foods like soup, salads and multiple types of kimchi. Good stuff. Many different types of meat. Beef, chicken, fish, pork, squid, etc.
