Hi all! Im new here. I figured i'd share one of my food travels.
About 3 years ago while living in Japan, My Japanese brother took me to a Japanese-Chinese restaurant, now this place wasn't the best looking place, but the food there was outstanding. I ordered a plate that consisted of, Gyoza (fried meat dumplings), Pork fried rice, Oolong tea, and a big bowl of Miso style Ramen with Pork, hard boiled egg, and vegetables . My meal was 950 yen, around $8.50 U.S. I have to say I don't think I've ever had so much food that tasted good for such a low price.

Asian food = umami (in our house pronounced "ooooooh-MOMMY!) = bliss. Carmelized pig fat makes everything better, no doubt about it. I think it contains the element "Deliciousum" - you won't find it on the Periodic Table, but it's definitely present in a pig's body. Before living in Japan for a while - many years ago - my hubby and I were semi-veggies, due to family health concerns. But in Japan, it seems like pork is not just a protein source, it's a seasoning. We couldn't avoid it (much to my satisfaction). Needless to say, after being re-initiated into the Land of Taste, we never looked back. Your meal sounds delicious...I'm jealous!
