Two weeks ago when we visited my dad's, my husband was going to try to do a little panning for gold in the creek. It was really shallow, but when walking down the bank, we saw some bottle necks sticking out of the ground. We forgot about the gold panning and started pulling out old bottles. Some really great ones were broken but we found about 10 or so nice intact ones. I would like to clean them up and put them on top of my kitchen cupboards for display. There are some jugs and milk bottles (for those of you who remember when milk was delivered by a milkman to your door). My question is: How can I clean them up and get the "gook" out of them? Some have plants and grass growing inside them. I just want them for display and have scrubbed the outside and soaked the inside again and again. Any suggestions? We are going back to dig for more too as the ones we found were just sticking partly out of the ground. It was exciting to find these old bottles that were thrown out years ago and now are so sought after.

If you look up antique bottles on an internet search you will find many many sites to look at, also try a search for "bottle cleaning". There is a bottle forum at Treasuredepot.com you can look at also. hope this helps
