I'm watching the Bahamas episode. The premise of this series could work, but the host needs to be more compelling and engaging. He's not selling the thesis--he's unsympathetic, and frankly the whole thing comes across as another spoiled guy who managed to get a show. Plus, the writing is flat, and the sense of drama feels manufactured. The problem is, others have done what he's doing, so there's nothing really new with the content, so the schtick of playing off his fear doesn't work when he's not a centerpiece host like the others on TC. As a journalist and international traveler/adventurer, I can't sit through a program where I'm constantly feeling like I can do it better, or I've seen it all before.
Manufactured fear just doesn't work, and in a political culture today that's all about fear, this isn't scary enough to be exciting, and without a host who makes you want to watch the show, it just doesn't fly.
I couldn't agree more with that this show has a few flaws. The host is so unbelievably uninteresting and seems like he has never been anywhere or done anything - it makes him seem stupid. I watched some of the Dubai show and tried to give him a second chance by starting to watch the Bahamas show - but couldn't get thru the first few minutes. His idea of adventure is staying at the family resort - Atlantis??? Diving with the sharks is known to be a South African thing - not the tame caribbean ones! What does he have planned next - a little trip to Disney World in search of an adventure of a lifetime???
