RE: "Life's a Trip"

So - I've made it through the 1st 15 minutes of what I'm assuming is the pilot ("Japan: Expensive Steak") AND I've been watching this channel forever. I even cut a commissioned series for you guys back in the mid '90's. My only hope is that someone in programming checks on these forums to get a pulse on viewership. I'm not here just to rant for the sake of ranting. Like I said, I have some history with this network and it has taken something considerable to propel me into action. That action, of course, is registering here and typing this.

Sadly, it seems I am too late. Looks like you ordered 13 episodes of "Life's a Trip" with the regrettable Andrew Anthony. 13 episodes? WHY!!!?!?!? Let's see... People seem to like 1st-person travel journals with a smart, witty narrative that takes us global - a little brains, some fresh insight, some behind-closed-doors access mixed with the real people living in these distant (and sometimes close to home) locales. You had that already. It's a great show called "No Reservations" (Anthony Bourdain). The formulaic cable programming gods could not leave well enough alone.

Have you not learned anything from the all-eggs-in-a-basket approach? The hard fought lessons, the bad business decisions in the trenches from Banyan Productions, Edelmann and High Noon Entertainment, et al.????

Well - you got something right. At least you knew better than to take it to an hour. As I type this, the "New Zealand" episode has started. He actually just uttered "I am stoked" in his open voiceover.

Don't you realize that it is boring, self-important plankton like Andrew Anthony that many of us travel to get away from?!?!?!? Why on Earth would anyone want to tag along while this fratbot manchild gets to globetrot? And, no, that's no typo.... I said 'fratbot'. Part fratboy / part robot.

I actually have nothing nice to say and typing this is only making my anger worse. Blood pressure is rising. To be honest, it makes me appreciate "No Reservations" even more. Truly gifted writer and self-deprecating guy with a unique worldview. From your own press material: "But wait, why not give life in front of the camera a try?". Because he's terrible. That's why.

How old / experienced do you have to be to get into programming at TC? I have been doing television a long time. I don't work for a network for a reason. It's horrible decisions like this show acquisition that just make me ill. Please take note - "Life's a Trip" is one of the worst TV series that I have ever seen in my entire life. This show is awful. Please make it go away.

I hate to double post on the same topic but I'll just say again, get rid of this guy or get rid of this show. Terrible stuff, it neither enlightens nor entertains. Or maybe just limit his shows to Daytona Beach during spring break. That seems to be his metier. Fratbot indeed.

I hope you don't mind if I chime in here, apparently they have a 'hyper-critical' filter on these boards, my post on this show has not been 'allowed' yet - even though the post does not, in any way, violate the user agreement I signed.

Andrew Anthony can make all the 'high - powered' phone calls he wants to garner new experiences, and his crew can film all the dead and boring footage they want about said 'experiences', there is still nothing on earth that will make me tune in to such preppy-on-steroids programming, short of giving me a choice between firing squad and viewing 'Life's a Trip', and even then - if the size of the bullets are big enough, and I could be assured that the firing line has markmanship medals...

There is very little to recommend here, maybe the dead and lifeless delvery of the host, at least when traveling with a manniquin you have a chance to get some reading done!

The snobbishness of this 'Gunthy-Renker' {sp?} wanna be is a waste of production budget, and viewer's time. Let ol' Andy travel with me for an episode, we'll call it "Hot Dogs with Hell's Angels", let's see him deal with that!

13 episodes? God no. I could only watch the Ireland one all the way through and I was mortified by the way he treated the whole experience. I will not be watching - I can only hope he wasn't as bad at his other jobs as he is at hosting this show. Not a bad idea for a show - travel meets bucket list was probably the pitch...but it has no appeal, no charm. My idea of hell would be trapped on vacation with this guy. I sincerely hop the producers send some muffin baskets to those he offended. Like all of of Ireland.
