Maui to me is the "open Chef's table" of fine restaurants and delicious foods. My fave is David Paul's in Lahaina, followed by Vino's in Kapalua, and Roy's in Napili. Sure you can get Roy's on the mainland, but it's 10 times better on Maui. What is everyone's favorite?

Not having been to any of those places, I can't say much on those subjects. However, I stayed in Kahului when I was on Maui (last week) and a place I enjoyed was Marco's Grill and Deli. It's Italian food. It's a bit pricey, but the food is good. We enjoyed our breakfast and dinner there. The tiramisu is expensive, but it's a big piece big enough to split and my mother, who doesn't like tiramisu much, said it was one of the best pieces of it she'd ever had. Be warned though: The French toast is good, but there's not a lot of it. $6.95 may sound like a good deal, but you will not get a lot of food. Order side dishes.

Mama's Fish House is amazing. The food is wonderful. They create a new menu daily. The location and grounds are just beautiful. The only down side is it is on the expensive side but totally worth going to at least once.

One of my favorite places to eat is the Gazebo located at Napli Shores. It only serves breakfast and lunch I think open until 2. It is great food at an affordable price. I actually discovered it on Mark Decarlos Taste of America show. It is fantastic. They even serve coffee while you wait in line. The line moves quick but get there early if you can. It is the only place I eat more then once at during my stay at Maui.

Ate at Marco's twice during our stay, early April. Terific food. Tell me what isn't pricey on the island, though. Sunset on the deck at the Lahaina Fish Co. was delightful and the food was delicious. What surprised me was why Cheeseburger in Paradise was so busy. Found it to be so-so. |

I do nolt know the name of it, but it is on the street behind Safeway and the Mall in Lahaina, next to the famous Lua, as a matter of fact I think they may prepare some of the food for the lua. Local dishes, very reasonable and very good.

It's Aloha Mixed Plate Food. I go every year and yes, they do prepare the food for the luau. Great local food! Totally casual. My first stop after I leave the airport! |

I take a trip to Maui every year (for the past 8 years). It has become our family's summer escape. That being said, some of our favorites are:
Kula Lodge & Restaurant (upcountry, Kula) best breakfast! Go on your way to or from Haleakala. Aloha Mixed Plate (on Front Street) - lunch The Sea House Restaurant (@ Napili Kai Resort) - perfect at sunset (call ahead and ask what time sunset will be and make reservations for 1/2 hour prior) Cheeseburgers Island Style (Wailea) - if you ask my 14 year old son, best cheeseburgers on earth! Old Lahaina Luau (Front Street, Lahaina) - If you are a first timer, best Luau! Great food, drinks and entertainment. Pricey but you'll only do it once. Tip, you have a waiter so you do not have to stand in line for your drinks! Lahaina Fish Co. (Front Street, Lahaina) - Great at sunset! Moose Mc Gillycuddy's (Front Street, Lahaina)- may be the only nightlife in the area. You can dance after you eat! L&L (Lahaina Cannery Mall) - I've eaten at several L&L's on the mainland but this location beats them all! Large portions and a larger menue. On your way to Hana, any banana bread stand on the side of the road. Go in the morning because once they run out, you are out of luck! If you can find a Shave Ice truck, lucky you! Yes, it's "shave ice" not "shaved ice". It's a must!!! Have fun in Maui! I'll be there in 4 days! |
