The United Nations is near where the Circle Line is oriented. quote: Originally posted by mr2z0: you MUST take the circle line cruise and if you do it, do it early when it isn't too crowded. They go alllll the way around Mahatten island and you get to see a part of NYC that dosn't look like it at all but It also gives you some of the BEST views of the city.Back to the part of NYC that dosn't look lik it at all: i am talking about the back side of the island. it looks like you'r no where near a city.I also recomend that you go to the rockafeller plaza's observation deck. it gives you a great view of the city and central park. you always see veiws from the Empire state buildings observation deck but never the rockafellers so you should see.I also reccomend that you see ground zero because if you havn't ever seen it, it is huge and sad.

There are a few playgrounds in Central Park that have a style that is almost extinct in the US. One of them is on 84th Street and Park Ave. quote: Originally posted by caitlinc: Omg go to Central Park. It is so goregous there. I have been there a view times on vacation. It is absolutely goregous.

Even if you can't stay until the parade, you should check out the shopping in Herald Square, especially the Macy's. You should also window-shop on the high-end shopping strip on 5th Ave, near 59th Street. quote: Originally posted by joyriding: I don't know what the time frame will be, but it would be great if they could see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Seated in the bleachers in Harold's Square, of course.

Residentially, Queens is the most ethnically diverse borough. You should check out Flushing and Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Forest Hills, and Jamaica Ave. You should also go to both East and West Harlem in Manhattan. quote: Originally posted by lrnnnjoy: When you visit New York, you should take the Long Island Rail Road and visit "the Island", if you can find a ride definately check out Montauk Point. Also take the train and visit Flushing, Queens or 8th Avenue in Brooklyn (large Asian community similar to Chinatown).

Don't forget Ithaca, NY the birthplace of the ice cream sundae. Find out why Ithaca is Gorges (really...there are gorges). quote: Originally posted by upstatenygirl: While in NY you should check out the rest of the state. There's more to NY that just NYC!!!! Here's a few ideas that are off the beaten path:
1. Go to Buffalo NY to the Anchor Bar, its the birthplace of the original Buffalo wing.
2. Go to Thousands Islands NY and visit Boldt Castle. The story of Boldt and his wife is a real true life fairy tale. But its only open until mid-october so you'd have to go right away.
3. GO to Lake Champlain and look for "Champ", America's Loch Ness Monster.
4. Go to Jamestown NY and visit the "I Love Lucy Museum" Its one of the most famous and beloved american tv shows. Here's a piece of "Lucy" trivia: "I Love Lucy" airs every hour of every day somewhere in the world.

A quick and super Cheap side-trip could be Boston. The Fung Wah bus travels from Chinatown NYC to the Boston South Station every hour of every day for $15 one way, $30 round trip. Can't beat that! http://www.fungwahbus.com/ticket/The Freedom Trail is a free walking tour of the sites of the American Revolution in Boston. http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/So...for $30, that's a full day's trip and tour all of America's history. not bad, I'd say.

you guys should go to battery park on the south tip of manhatten. It is not nearly as big as central park ,but there you can see the piece of art that once stood at the site of the world trade center. It is all bent up and there is a huge hole in the top of it. there is an iternal flame at the bottom of it. It really makes you sad. Also, the bull, a piece of art near battery park, is a thing to see. it is very shiney and nice, but there are a lot of tourists around

Any just a theatre performance. Even if you can't go to a big broadway play there are great ones off-braodway. They cost way less. At the same time like it for what it is, some off-B are way off and just have fun.

Something the TJ's should know, that's sort of a hidden NY secret, is that students can see a number of Broadway shows at extreme discounts. It's called "student rush" and if you google the term, you'll find websites that have listings for student rush shows. All you need is a student ID. You can only get tickets this way the day of the show and they generally cost around $25.
If you guys plan on day-tripping to Long Island, the wine region, on the North Fork, is just starting to take off as a tourist destination. It's packed with great restaurants, b&b's, beautiful scenery and, of course, great wine and great people!
