I spent 20 years in the fire and miss it greatly. However, the screaming pain in the knees and feet were not memorable. Walking out after twelve plus hours to go to bed and start again the next day were often hard. Yes drugs and alchohol made it possible to sleep - is that any way to live?
But the instant gratification is hard not to miss. For those of us who used to work in the trenches and those who still do I thank you for putting on a reality show. This isn't the garbage you see in celebrity kitchens or cooking school advertisements. Ask those cooks who carry those trays of meats up those stone stairs time and time again.
Thank you once again for a public peek into what was oncy my world.
