and Tony, as you keep re-reading 'THE QUIET AMERICAN" why not have a change of pace-- & read THE LOVER.. or that erotica film version??( they were doing it for real.. lol.. get the unedited version)

then there's some HK films shot there - when it first opened up-- one A BETTER TOMORROW 3 with Chow Yun Fat,Anita Mui, & tony Leung Ka Fai(same guy in the Lover) & STARS & ROSES with Andy Lau.

Anthony-

I've been a fan of your show since DirectTV came one the scene. Love it.

What I like most about you is that you are so unpretentious. A straight-shooter. You're so down with the locals wherever your show takes you. Such genuine affection does rub off to the viewers, especially to me, after viewing tonight episode when you were in Hoi An. It has brought back a lot of memories for me ever since I left that little and innocent town more than 20 years ago.

Keep up the good work Anthony. Be true as always. You're the man of charisma!!!

Thank you for visiting Vietnam for the final show of the season. Your love of the country, people, culture and food shows through in every shot. Certainly a beautiful way to wrap up the season.

It was, of course, sad to hear of the passing of Madam Yeok (sp?), the woman mentioned in Cook's Tour. It was very nice of you to visit there and show respect to the family.

GREAT show!! Phillipe is a HOOT!

yes, could see why the Big T is fascinated with rice paddies & planting rice-- I used to watch this for hours during my childhood in Phil.

Now,Tony-- here's a 'tip' as you kept raving over that showerhead.. if you don't find one in House you lease in Vietnam-- just bring it with you. I found such a showerhead-- as big as a plate-- on E-BAY for a $1.00.. yes.. a dollar-- S& H cost more! and stainless steel to boot with an extra arm.

so there you are-- piece of cake.

oops, sorry, sad to hear about Madame, yes indeed I loved the vignette about her reading cook's tour.

and for more films-- how about CYCLO it may remind one of the Saigon when you first visited.

I've only watched the first half and am transfixed. Right now on a certain travel site (the gnome) you can get to Vietnam in the next month and stay in a hotel for almost a week for $1,500 a person. Hot damn I wish I had that kind of money.

I thought this show On Viet Nam was truly Tony's best. He was truly "into" this episode. No phony stuff here. And the final music with Tony sittingont eh curb was vintage 60's stuff. This was worth watching again, which i did last night. I've been to Viet Nam and it's truly a rising star in theis world. And Tony depicted this reality Smile perfectly.

Bhickman -

With Pho soup going for about 50 cents, and the ability to eat for a couple dollars per meal (or even per day, depending) and with hotels going for $10-$20/night (may have gone up in the last 5 yrs), $1,500/wk in Vietnam for a hotel is ridiculous -- unless living in a mega 5-star hotel is your thing.

Hell, I'd stay in a youth hostel b4 I'd spend that kind of money anywhere for lodging. No need...ESPECIALLY in VN.

(Now, if you're talking about FLIGHT and LODGING -- it's a decent deal, esp. if it includes some meals.) Still, one can even beat that!
