I don't know if this has been repeated one million times or not, but I have decided that it was important enough for me to come out here and say it.
My life has been riddled with bad decisions. I have been been a genius, an idiot, and a drug addict all at the same time. I have always felt that there was nothing to fear in life because it was all so trivial. Is it cliche to say that a book has turned you around? Yes, I think it is. The truth is even after I read kitchen confidential, even after I went to china for over 3 months, and even after I found a new love interest in my life, I decided to relapse one more time. I almost lost my life that last time, I don't know, nor do I think I could ever speak my mind to Bourdain, but in all honesty I really feel like I have had a similar life journey. Still at a very young age I hope that I can one day be as successful as he was after his addiction. It is not an easy thing to overcome and in all honesty, I don't think I could have, had I not read his first book. I will be heading to Asia to teach English for a long time. And I honestly don't ever expect anything like this to ever reach him, but I thought I would say thank you... because this is perhaps the best outlet I could think of, good luck in your journeys and all of your endeavors. Maybe I will run into you in Asia one day. |
