Hi Guys,
My name is Maggie and I am a NO RESERVATIONS ADDICT. Sad but true but then again it's a good thing LOL. I get to see the beauty all of the different countries that Anthony visits without even spending a dime. Take that back I have a darn Cable Bill to pay at the end of each month. All in all its very worth it. Anthony is a great host and man oh man does he have my DH and I cracking up with each and every episode. But that one last episode really got to me and my DH the one where he ate a RAW SEAL omg. It was so devastating to watch still I could not take my eye off of the TV set. Aren't there are any laws out there that state one can't kill and eat a seal? aaah. But yes guys I am addict I have everyone of Anthony's books. And thanks to his writings I can consider myself a food snob now. LOL So who else is addicted? |

I am addicted as well to Bourdain. I watch "No Reservations" as often as possible.
Bourdain ate the raw seal as a gesture of respect for another culture. It would have seemed rude and disrespectful and insulting for him not to eat the raw seal. Seal meat, eaten raw, is a delicacy and part of the food culture of the Inuit/Eskimo culture. If offered something to eat you accept gracefully and eat the item. You are a guest in their home. You do not insult your host by squeamishly refusing to eat the raw seal. |

I absolutely agree. I thought the episode was spiritual. To sit with that family and enjoy something so special with them must have been quite a journey! And, he managed to do it without any eye rolling or sarcastic comments, which, being naturally sarcastic myself, proves how special that was. I would PAY a fortune to experience that!

mountaingirl08 i couldn't agree with you more i also watch as often as possible and yes it would have been disrespectful not to have eaten it and as great and amazing of an experience as seeing and experiencing how they have eaten and survived in such a harsh landscape for so many years i can't help but think "wow he was really earning his pay that day" although the things he eats is a small price to pay to go all the places he does. and speaking of going places keep it up tony i can't wait to see the new season.

Alas i guess i must admit to also being a No Reservations addict not that i plan on ever seeking counseling,.
I love the culture and surroundings Anthony tries to show to give you a true feel for where he is and a feel for more than any other travel-food show can give you it is a feel for what is real and a feel for the people as well as their way of life,. i do not watch any of the other food shows they suck compared to this one,. |

Yes it is a gesture of good eatings, that I see what Anthony has to offer especially in today's show.....chatting about the Machu Picchu culture and taking the long train ride on a "what looked like a few hours of luxury" in to the Inca ruins. What I have rarely seen as the picturesque view of a civilization loss, seems to answer the questions of ancient history. Did they build that in those mountains from alien teachings!!! Or did that come from the genius of the local culture......his tour guide summed it up quite well "I am embarrased that you think our intellect could not build this wonder of the world".....no that is not an exact quote, but you get her meaning. Anthony understood her premise!! Did the Inca Culture have the architectual genius to build this precise amazing monolith and then just disappear/vanish from the face of the earth? It makes you wonder!!
On a side note......glad your film crew filmed the oxygen you needed,(11,000' feet above sea level?) to give us viewers a degree of preparedness if ever going on the trek, to this rather compelling landscape, or better worded "Wonders of the World Curiosity". Anthony, another funny epsiode in todays venue, was the coca leafs that cured your headache, and the funny reply to your soup eating hangover remedy........smoke a j!@#$t, no I don't partake but its makes Travel Channel worth the time. Thanks again, for the captivating TV-Travel Channel-Venue. RS, of California P.S. I am addicted..........have been for years. No Reservations, keep it up :-) |
