I don't think that there is a such thing as a "bad" NR, but this one was definitely not my favorite. I did, however, enjoy seeing Anthony firing an M-60.

The Shark has been Jumped.
This promotion for the BMW X6 was awful both in its blatent product promotion and for its lack of food creativity. I will continue to watch to see if he regains his edge in both his outlook on life and the quest for something other than ordinary in food. Please don't let the sponsor drive the script and direction of this show. |

good show, nothing better than good food you killed yourself. I'm glad I was brought up in this fashion.

Being born and raised in El Paso, TX it was hard for my to forgive NR for leaving the city out of the Texas/Mexico border episode (how does that happen??) When we heard there would be a SW show, we thought you would redeem yourselves. But yet, another show featuring a road trip through the Texas/New Mexico border and no camera time for El Paso. What are you thinking?

I'm in the midst of the show, so I'll post more later...
Good to see that Tony was in Hatch, NM. I was hoping that he'd stop there. It is indeed the chile capital of the world. Hatch chile, there's nothing like it in the world. I grew up eating the stuff, it's been a staple in my family's diet for many generations. I've sampled food from all over the world, and it remains one of my favourite things to eat. So, I felt excited that he was there sampling it... and liking it! A trip to the SW isn't complete without Hatch chile. |

I thought it was a pretty good show. To those of you who complain or point out that the crew missed your city, remember, they spanned four of the biggest states in the US, a bit hard to get many cities. I would have liked a bit more Alice, though, he seems like a genuine guy.

Does anyone know where to find those Spoiled Pig shirts that Tony wears in the episode?

I think it's The Spotted Pig which is a gastropub in Greenwich Village. Tony went there in his NYC episode. http://thespottedpig.com/teeshirts.php |

I hate to label any of the NR episodes as "bad" but this one is begging for it.
I felt like he was selling out with the BMW and the stop by Alice Cooper's restaurant. I was watching a yuppie on vacation. The hotdog looked like a hotdog from a gas station except longer. The fact that it was award winning didn't add any excitement either. I don't really get why Ted Nugent is in the show. What did he contribute in the show? grilled meat? profanity? There was really no emphasis on great food. The highlight was probably the chiles. I'm glad the next episode is Tokyo with Morimoto so I can recover from the Saudi Arabia and Southwest episode. |

I thought the SW show was a nice change. And, since I've always believed No Reservations is as much about culture and people as it is about food, I liked the 'over salted' vacation spot and the die hards that stick it out there.
I especially enjoyed the Nugent segment. Ted's a larger than life character and there's so much nonsense said and written about him... it was good to see Tony hanging out experiencing the 'culture' of Ted. It looked like a blast (literally). The nuke deal was a little slow and the Alice Cooper spot was a tad empty but, overall, I think it was a decent show that was saved [to a degree] with the Nuge segments. Thanks to all for putting out consistently great shows. |

This show was the worst I've ever seen. When did Tony start doing ads for BMW? What did that have to do with the Amercian Southwest? This is one of the worst cases of commercial exploitation that I have ever seen. Were you advertising Shiner Bock too? There was nothing interesting about this show at all. No Reservations has always been a terrfic show that will tackle subjects no one else will (Beirut), but in this episode Tony has irreperably damaged his professional integrity is nothing more than a blatant sell-out.
Dear Producers, please don't let this happen again. Regardless of how much your sponsors pays you, its not worth losing the respect of your viewers. |

A good hot dog has nothing to do with Alice Cooper. Whoever did the research for the SW show really was ill-/un-/not informed of the greatest regional hot dog in the USA. The Sonoran Hot dog is a delicious blend of cultures and tastes-kosher hot dog, bacon, onions, beans etc etc and available anywhere in Tucson that brown people eat. I saw no evidence of decent eating, brown people, regional cuisine or intelligence in this show. What a disappointing sell-out especially after the last 2 shows were so bad. It just seemed like a drunken back-east-frat-boy road trip that stopped at every cheesy and horrible roadside tourist pit and drooling over has-beens like Alice Cooper and Ted Nugent.

OH GOD, Sonoran Hot Dog... I can bet the only reason the hot dog was featured on the show was 'cos of all the crafty Randy Johnson/really big hot dog jokes that could be made. Yeah, we all made those "haha, Big Unit" jokes the first time we went to Cooperstown. |

I thought it was interesting especially the part about the Salton Sea.
It would be cool to do a route 66 episode. |

Are you guys really complaining about the BMW? Really? Thinking that the BMW was advertising implies that someone, somewhere, quite possibly you, thought that No Reservations viewers have the money to buy a new BMW - on impulse - just because they saw it on TV!
Granted, some of you Travel Network viewers may just be watching it for the food and culture, but for me, and a lot of other fans, it's also about something else. It's about watching an exploited restaurant worker like ourselves finally make it big,get out of the kitchen, and cash in - just having an awesome time on the company pay check. Lunch with over the hill rock stars? Complementary sports cars? All the food you can eat and all the beer you can drink? Perfect! Honestly, Anthony doesn't inspire me to keep cooking - he inspires me to keep writing! Because some day that ship will come in. Until then, I can live vicariously through him. Any way, what is more punk rock then scamming BMW into letting you tear ass around the desert in their newest monster? I mean seriously. If you would pass up that opportunity, then you haven't learned anything from this show! |

Route 66 show, IMO, would be boring as hell.
I grew up on, and have travelled the "Mother Road". I'd make another reference to something involving "Mother", but I'm sure it's a bit inappropriate. Sure, if touring near ghost towns with knackered old buildings and crappy little tourist traps (souvenir shops) sounds like an exciting time... go for it. Besides, it's been covered enough already. |

Mr. Bourdain,
No Reservations is one of the most important shows on T.V. Thank you for your sacrifices in its production. The Southwest Show with Ted Nugent was a little hard on the obese, a bit skanky even by No Reservations standards, but your points were well taken. I want to add here, sir, a comment on your trip to Malaysia in which you said that you were sorry to have to leave. You knew you did not belong there, but at that moment you felt that neither did you belong in New York. An Anthropologist at the University of Minnesota once told me that living in a less differentiated culture for one year was far easier than returning home. He said that when he came back he was afraid of traffic, he was acutely aware of a din of noise, and of the obesity of American people. I would like to read your comments on the effects of so much travel on your self image and your sense of belonging. What does home feel like to you after all this time? |
