I'm looking forward to seeing THIS.

Tony in the kitchen at Les Halles with Chef Ripert.

This is going to be good.

After 8 years out of the kitchen,I can agree,a person can be slow and out of his game. You know there is a new invention called reading glass that you could of used during your shift. If it wasn't for chef Ripert...you butt would have been off the line. Good show,I only yawned once. Smile

As a former worker in the industry, all I've got to say is "thank you" to Tony and crew for putting together one of my favorite NR episodes thus far.

I've always loved and respected this show and have devoutly watched all episodes, but tonight's airing of "Into the Fair" really took it to new levels. Kudos you guys for somehow managing in a 40 minute running time, to put together an episode that legitimately touched on everything we love and hate about the world few diners ever get to understand.

fantastic episode.

How fabulous was it for the Les Halles diners and passerbys to catch a glimpse of Tony through the window while he was on the line...

It WAS. A total blast. The only thing I was trying to do, though, was to shoot Ripert at the wooden corner of the partition and with no flash, so as not to distract or irritate him. One slim blonde forgot to take the flash off her camera, and Ripert playfully stuck his tongue at her, laughed, and kept grilling. Oh, and to not have the flash on, either, while Todd was shooting out of the kitchen towards the partition. I could see how he might not have loved that happening.

I love Tony Bourdain. I have been a huge fan ever since I read Kitchen Confidential. I have read all the subsequent books. I try to see all of his TV shows, whatever network they are on.

I watched Into the Fire last night. I was laughing through most of it. I was especially chagrined when Tim mentioned Tony was is the kitchen. The tourists appeared at a window with their cameras, snapping pictures of the famous chef with a doo rag on his head.

In the beautifully filmed ending, where he leaves in the cab, realizing that this part of his life is over for good, was very sad. I have not felt that kind of wistfulness since he was doing another series. Tony was in his ancestral home in Arcachon France. At the end, he realized how much he missed his late father. Thomas Wolfe was right, Tony. You can't go home again.
