It does not appear as though I am alone in my dissapointment with the Romania episode. I have spent significant time in Romania (and thrilled to be going back for a month in June) and can tell you that you got exactly what you were looking for. You spent time almost exclusively in touristy areas that work hard to capitalize on the Vlad Tepes (Dracula) legend (although Bran had nothing to do with Vlad Tepes as you probably know). So it's no surprise that you found tacky fake "blood" wine and wax fangs. What you missed is an amazingly beautiful country with lush mountains, spectacular medieval towns, and a people that have perservered with tremendous spirit who are welcoming and friendly. And it's cheap to boot! Where where Sighisoara or Brasov or other amazing towns in your travels??
You did Romania a huge injustice. Go back and try again! |

I personally think that this topic has been beaten to death.

I couldn't watch the show anymore, I was sooooooooooo angry and offended. If I wouldn't of known Romania I would of thought that country was the worst country ever in the whole world, no wonder people have this wrong impression about it. It seemed to me that somebody would of payed him to make fun of it because, he went to the worst places ever, he found that stupid car that doesn't even exist in Romania anymore, worst restaurants...what am I saying, those weren't even restaurants...and even the food...most of it was Russian... Imagine somebody making a TV show about the dark side of Atlantic City-New Jersey(Come for the slots. Stay for the gang warfare and fourth-rate prostitutes) as being "the American culture"...that's kind of what he did.
As a Romanian citizen, I absolutely felt humiliated... Knowing how beautiful Romania truly is and how great the people are, I can't help being very angry and disappointed in his style of showing "the facts". |

True ... the topic has been "beaten to death" .. many people have expressed their opinions. I saw that before I posted and hesitated, but I felt so strongly about how Romania was depicted, that I still felt compelled to post.
Additionally, I noted that many of the comments were from Romanians who the network might think have a natural bias towards their country, so I felt it warranted to share my opinion as an American traveler who thinks Romania is amazing. |
